Texas is baaacck

I could see Baylor being good if they avoid injuries. They have good offensive and defensive lines which bodes well. But I'm not sure about their depth. And, they lost a lot in the secondary...a lot.

Okie Lite lost their defensive coordinator.

OU won't be down as much as people think. But they weren't that "up" last year either.

Texas?

Bottom line. I don't see any team good enough to "run away" from all the others. I even expect bottom teams like Kansas and Texas Tech to rain of some of the other team's parades.

no.. expectations are set for the '23 season. This season they expect the freshman OL to take it's bumps and bruises, and for Ewers to get accustomed with Worthy.. They need to have a 8 win season because it will catapult them in the portal.

I am thinking Texas will go 8-4 this year.

@duckboy33, yeah Big12 isn't quite as strong but the teams are not pushovers either and all of them treat Texas (and Oklahoma) as their Super Bowl so Texas won't get overlooked by anyone on their schedule.

Texas has a better chance flying under the radar and surprising people in the SEC than the Big12. Although that may not be a given as well due to their name. (Missouri was able to get away with this for a couple of years).

8-4 is a safe guess. They aren't beating Alabama so that likely puts them 6-3 in the Big 12. There's going to be a lot of parity in the Big 12 this year IMO, I wouldn't be shocked if 6-3 got them in the Big 12 CG. They flip one game, 7-2 would almost guarantee it.

Getting to the top of the Big 12 isn't going to take as long as getting to the top of the SEC. I agree on Herman though, I think he had things going in the right direction and Texas got impatient.
you know why the OL struggles and there is no real pass rusher on this team.. let alone getting into the LB position?

He didn't recruit them.. he always thought that their big targets would come..and when they went elsewhere he would try and get flip from other schools at the last hour.

it was falling apart.. especially behind closed doors.. I think the only assistant they had while he was at UT that has made progress is Jason Washington who is now at Ole Miss. It was really bad.

Texas will never fly under the radar.. it's like SC or ND.. no matter what the record is, people fill up the stadiums on the road and do horns down..

Is this time different?

Let's be honest; OU sucked last year. It was pitiful. Winning games against Tulane and a bunch of other teams by a point or two finally caught up with them when they ran into Jr. and Baylor. Muleshoe was mailing it in all season and Grinch was doing his usual sloppy job of coaching his famous Speed D also known as The Soft Tits Defense with defensive backs playing 8-10 yards off the receivers. Oklahoma deserved to lose 5 games last year.

Except Georgia was always decent just couldn't get over the hump. Texas has had 1 ten win season the last decade.
I hear you, but all the parts are there, just lacking the coach. We had Richt who was really good, just not elite. If they get the elite coach, no reason that they can't do the same thing, IMO. By the way, the difference between Richt and Smart isn't huge, yet the results were. Goes to show just how hard it is to get that elite coach. Is Sark the guy? We shall see.

That doesn't have the effect you think it does. In fact, there were some things that happened in that game and the lead-up to it that made Smart change the way he did things that ultimately lead to where we are today. Hate that we lost but it's nothing like NCG and SECCG Bama games, many Auburn games in my life, the UTjr Hail Mary, etc.

I'm also a Vandy grad so I have the honor of being the only SEC team with a winning record against UT ... so take that Tejas!

I think K-State is the dark horse in the Big XII. Lots of underrated talent on that roster right now and a potential playmaker at QB in Martinez. A change of scenery and lower expectations might fix his issues between the ears. Klieman has been quietly building a big retarded purple monster... err, powerful.

Good point, I am surprised Kansas State isn't higher ranked. I was talking about this in another thread last week.

I think they have more first team All Big XII players than anyone else.

I thought that was illegal or some shit?
