not that crazy. Bama had a higher SRS rating in '78 than '79, a much higher rated SOS, and their only loss was to a very good USC team. They had wins over the likes of Mizzou, Nebraska, Penn State, LSU and Washington.

1980 - 12-0 NC with a Sugar Bowl win over Notre Dame.

1981 - 10-2 - we were 10-1 with only reg season loss to Clemscum, got beat by Pitt with 35 seconds left when Dan Marino threw for a TD. Clemson wins it even if we had won.

1982 - 11-0, ranked no. 1, lose to Penn State 23-27. Win that, we win the natty.

1983 - 10-1-1 fucking Hershel goes to the USFL, we tie Clemscum, lose a close one late to Auburn, and beat undefeated no. 2 Texas in the Cotton Bowl. We win the natty with Hershel.

94 and 95 nebraska teams were stunningly good
00 and 01 miami teams are a runner-up

92: 11-1, #2 finish
93: 12-1, national champions

98-99 FSU would have been a good shout as well. only loss by 7 points in the national title game despite being down to their 3rd string QB in 98. went undefeated and won it all in 99

I don't think they are the best but two great Tennessee years were 1997/1998 Tennessee.

Although, I think the most talented Tennessee team that I have watched was 2001. They choked against LSU in Atlanta though.

2011-2012 has my vote for Tennessee
 
Oklahoma in the mid 80s had like a three-year stretch (I want to say 85-87 @outofyourmind can confirm the years) where the only team they would lose to every year was Miami.
