Back-To-Back National Championships in the AP Era / Does Georgia make the list this year ??

Illegitimate

I mean, I'm kinda on your side here as I do agree that once the BCS was established it was the new standard, but in the spirit of this thread, USC was crowned by the AP that year, so it counts

When you recognize Mickey Mouse titles, you endorse them.

I thought somebody would have pointed out that AP Era does not equal AP Poll.

'Consensus' Back to Backs might look different also.

just sayin'

You know who never had a chance to make the list? Nebraska in 1998.

Thread is about AP national champs so 2003 USC would count

Yeah, my argument was 2004 because that one was vacated. Not sure why people stuck to 2003. I personally believe that 2003 LSU was the better team.

Edit: The 2004 vacation is very stupid now looking back at it. The Reggie Bush thing seems small beans compared to the shit that Alabama has gotten away with under Saban.

It was just a weird situation. Too bad we didn't have the four team playoff at that point.

2004 being vacated also looks really silly with today's NIL rules. It's like keeping someone in jail in Colorado on a weed charge

After looking at the schedule, I'm going with 90% chance
I will make our case:

- We have a favorable schedule.

- I am not buying that Bama is as great as everyone is saying - they have OL issues, they lost their best WRs and had to steal ours, and they have some really high-end D players, but also some that aren't as good as some people think. Keep in mind they will be a top 10 D, so I am not saying they aren't good, I just don't see this "they are way better than everyone else" D.

- We return a very experienced and underrated QB, strong RB room, best TE room in the country, and our WR are underratedly good. OL will be stout ... top 5 nationally. We should have a great O this year. We were 9th last year, and will be better.

- Yes, we lost a ton on the D, but UGA rotates more players on D than anyone else in CFB. For example, on the DL we return players who played 39, 27, 23, 14, and 12 percent of all snaps. At LB, we return players who played 50, 33, 10, 10, 10, and 10 percent of all snaps. In the secondary, we return players who played 79, 60, 45, 27, 16, 14, and 11 percent of all snaps. And keep in mind almost all these guys were Top 100 5* and 4* guys.

- We won't play a team in the regular season that is close to us in talent.

- We have some trap games. Miss State in particular looks tricky. But our schedule is easier on the front end, once we get past Oregon, which gives us time to build up experience. That is when it will be needed to take on Bama in the SECCG. If we get to the SECCG at 12-0, something we are favored to do and lose, we still get into the CFP. And we know how that can work out.

All that said, it's very difficult to go back to back. Bama has only done it once in this run. So the odds are definitely against us, but let's see how all this talent acquisition works.

What would you place the odds at for Georgia to go Back to Back ???
Doesn't happen all the time and is incredibly difficult to do.

I'll go with a 'gut feel' and say 10% chance.

List of past teams to do it.

1940-1941 Minnesota
1944-1945 Army
1946-1947 Notre Dame
1955-1956 Oklahoma
1964-1965 Alabama
1970-1971 Nebraska
1974-1975 Oklahoma
1978-1979 Alabama
1994-1995 Nebraska
2003-2004 USC
2011-2012 Alabama
2021- ??? Georgia

Seems really strange no B1G team is on this list.
Maybe I missed it.
No, they are trash

Sure, I think USC beats Auburn in 2004 and LSU beats USC in 2003 but I could be totally wrong. All of those teams were very close in talent.

Auburn skull fucks USC and OU in 2004.

Tennessee would have beat USC and would have a shot at the natty if not for the two losses we gave you.
