“It’s clear that UCLA and USC made a decision for short-term financial gain at the expense of their student-athletes. It’s 100 percent clear to me. It’s really unfortunate, and I think they are already regretting it, given the pushback that they’ve gotten from almost every corner of their communities. I think they will regret it more as time goes on,” Kliavkoff told The Athletic when talking about the situation.

Here is my favorite line in the article:

"PAC-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff continues his best Bahgdad Bob impression as the conference descends into turmoil."

Should we just start referring to Kliavkoff (which is awful to type and say) as Bahgdad Bob? I think we should.

I liked this part:

"Kliavkoff can say whatever he wants, but it doesn’t change reality."

“I thought it was brilliant for this reason, he was the man on the hot seat,” Finebaum said on his regular Monday appearance on WJOX and the “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” program. “He was the one who helped derail the College Football Playoff without even an apology. He was part of that insane Alliance a year ago. So he was going to get a lot of questions about how could you get your pockets picked in clear daylight. Instead of taking the heat about that, he did what a smart person does, he went on the offensive and it is a battle right now.”

Finebaum is a fan of Bahgdad Bob.

Paul Finebaum is kind of like a Lee Corso or Clay Travis, he isn't famous for his detailed analysis but rather by his personality and driving controversy. Finebaum's claim to fame was always his ability to get the crazy fans on his show (i.e. Harvey Updike) and the drama it caused, not his detailed analysis of the game.

except idiots eat up all of these clowns like Finebaum and Clay Travis for some reason.....

They don't listen to them for football knowledge but to be entertained. That is the key, these guys are entertaining.

This is the reason GameDay was so popular back in the day, it was entertaining. People didn't take the hosts that seriously.

Also, the problem with sports in general is that, no matter how much you know the game, you are still likely to get a lot wrong. It is very much driven on a game-to-game basis. We are dealing with teams full of human beings and not necessarily machines.

A star QB could have an off-game and cause the team to lose based off a fight the night before with his girlfriend or something silly. Injuries are a thing and impact games as well. Heck, some games come down to just plain luck as well. You don't just have to be good to win it all, you need some luck (or at least a lack of bad luck) to win it all.

its like back 10-15 years ago. I thought Fox for NFL sunday was more show and CBS was so insightful I think Fox had the ratings but I always watched CBS.

Yes, I don't even care how to say or spell his name but this will make it entertaining to say

The entertainment slant on commentators can make a difference imo. I’ve said the best recruit LIV golf has gotten isn’t one of their players. It is Feherty!

USC and UCLA leaving isn't on Kliavkoff...that is 100% on Larry Scott. Kliavkoff is the guy stuck with having to deal with the aftermath. Unfortunately for him, he didn't have time to make the necessary changes to prevent this.

As far as his claim about ''pushback'' and/or ''already regretting it''....the only pushback that I have seen has come from outside USC and UCLA. Most of it seems to be coming from Gavin Newsom, the other PAC schools and Kliavkoff himself.

What I've seen from USC fans has mostly ranged from ''wait and see'' to full support.

I think you guys are getting scared and don't want to leave mommy.

I don’t think the new guy could have done much…even with time. I don’t see the networks forking out close to $100 million a team. Even at $75 million that’s quite a large some when you start stacking multiple years on it. Unless he could have sold unequal revenue sharing. Am I missing something?

Fast forward a few years and what you're going to either hate or enjoy are the stories about how a good USC or UCLA team dropped one after practicing for a couple of weeks in beautiful 65 degree weather and then having to go play a tough game in windy 25 degree weather. There will be stories about how players don't like being up for 16-18 hours because of weird starting times + the travel. It's a two-edged sword. Both schools will benefit from the B1G association. And the $$$ will be there too. It's just too early to say it will be mostly good, or a PITA or a combination of the two. We'll see.

Yes and no. Part of the tv revenue issue is that Larry Scott tried to sell the PAC-12 Network as a "stand alone" network rather than partner with ESPN or Fox.

That would have been fine, except that he couldn't get but maybe a couple providers to carry it and those providers have chopped it up into a main channel and then a bunch of "regional channels".

So, if you happened to have a tv provider that carried the PAC Network AND wanted to watch a game that wasn't on the main channel or their local PAC channel, you'd have to subscribe to another one of the channels...so if you're an Oregon St. fan living in Arizona and the Beavs aren't on the main or AZ PAC channels...you had to subscribe to PAC Oregon.

Way to be late to the party. This has already been debunked.

you realize that in the Pacific Northwest and in the mountains (6 out of 12 schools) weather is windy rainy snowy for more of the season than not?

You keep saying that. I've lived in the PNW for years. We have a home there. And I can tell you the cold weather in the PNW is NOTHING like the cold nasty weather in Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Illinois, etc. Go play a game up on Mt Hood in November and I'll agree that's the equivalent to some of the worst weather I've seen in Nebraska and Iowa.
