Post Your ACC Retard Thoughts Here

FSU got their 1 win out of the way, so there nothing holding them back from their hara-kiri ritual. Thank god for Jacksonville State's second half meltdown.

On a serious note, the ACC is probably the most disappointing football conference in the modern era. In 2001 when they expanded, they were going to include perennial power ls FSU and Miami with a top 10 Virginia Tech team. The league had other competitive programs historically such as Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland (at the time), Pittsburgh, Boston College, etc. The ACC commands the greatest TV markets overall. Yet only Clemson with brief stints by FSU and Va Tech has really made a splash. Many stated that the new ACC would be on par with the SEC and it hasn't happened.

A lot of the underachieving can be pointed at FSU and Miami but still the league in general has had minimal success despite being in strong recruiting grounds, owning major media markets, and containing multiple programs that have played football at a high level in the past.

West VA should have gotten an invite there too.. Not sure why they hate them but they were a positive addition to the conference

Academic snobbery. West Virginia is a perfect fit, especially when the ACC also had Maryland.

If my geography is correct, Rutgers and Maryland (at least part of it) are on the ATLANTIC Coast but are NOT in the ATLANTIC Coast Conference. Makes total sense.

I am more focused on historical rivalries. West Virginia's main rivals are Pittsburgh, Maryland, and Virginia Tech (along with Marshall). 2/3 and at one time, all 3 were in the ACC.

So it was better when the Big East was still alive?

Those went out the window with Nebraska/Oklahoma and Texas A&M/Texas, Mizzou/Kansas, etc.

It was better when there were 8 team conferences IMO. If we still had them, we could get a full round robin schedule in and still have slots for 5 OOC games. Of course, too many are so "home game money hungry" we'd probably get an OOC schedule of 1 P5, 1 G5 and 3 FCSs out of a lot of schools OOC slots.

Now that I wrote that, I've changed my mind and see what the consequences might be in today's environment. I like this year...nearly all having ONLY conference games. We need 13 teams conferences playing 12 conference games.

How's that?

On a bright note after Larry Scott shit the bed their commissioner doesn't look as bad. The network deal he signed was criminal and throwing ND a bone to boost the conference was pathetic.

Perfect and we get to throw Missouri out and it won't even effect our network value.

I think there is some value with ND there to be honest. Isn’t it written in the contract that if ND ever joins a conference it would have to be the ACC? That’s worth something at least.

What ND got was a home and full participation of all their non-football sports (which is a massive deal) and got to cherry pick the majority of their own football schedule, negotiate their own network deal, got a guaranteed spot in a major bowl if they earned it and no conference say in what they do.

The ACC folded and ND literally would have had to join a conference within two years. Hell this year has been one massive lifeline to them.

The ACC is getting ass raped by ND.

There is still value in adding a potential name like ND. The would have to join the ACC or if nothing else pay a shit ton to go elsewhere.

I can tell you right now the B1G and SEC would have told ND to get bent. No way they wanted in the Big 12 or PAC as the travel cost for non-football sports would kill them.

The ACC had a full house and folded.

ohh I garuntee both the B1G and SEC would have Told them to fuck off too

Travel costs would be more of a hit in the sec rather then the B12 though.

I agree ACC was bidding against themselves when it came to ND. But looking at it now, it pays off for this season alone. They have them playing a full ACC schedule... and ND gets a raise lol
