We talk a lot about Nebraska and Texas on here but Miami has pretty much been dead since early 2000s as a program. They tend to get decent coaches and they get talent but it never seems to translate to wins. Anyone know what is wrong with their program?

Their facilities suck, their stadiums is 30-60 minutes awful from the actual campus.

I hate to say it but Miami almost seems like a program that was a flash in the pan and really should have never been as ELITE as they were in the 1980s - early 2000s. I feel like they are just not a program that is going to come back easy if ever.

I feel like Nebraska and Texas will eventually find success again.

Miami needs to keep up with the facility arms race if they want to be a major player

True and the ACC money is probably not helping. I imagine Clemson, FSU, and Miami are on the phone regularly with the B1G and SEC but that GOR has them hung up. Louisville and Virginia Tech maybe two others but I am not so sure about the rest of the league though as they are likely focused on Basketball and most of the rest of them probably won't get an invite (with the exception of UNC but I don't see UNC as having Football as their focus).

ACC is probably a divided league with the football group led by Clemson, FSU, and Miami vs. the basketball group led by UNC, Virginia, Duke, etc.

I agree bout the Canes being dead, but from 2000-2005 they averaged 11 wins a season. Being dead for the last quite a few years, yes for sure. All the stuff the folks have said here is true. Are they not getting the recruits they used to get? The stadium deal is an issue and facilities also.

Imagine being a coach and going from Oregon's football facility to Miami's. Had to be night and day

Yeah. Mario being from Miami and going to the U made the decision make a little sense. But from an outside perspective, it was a weird move

You mean to tell me the HB Dive 40 times a game isn't working?

Don't think Miami is coming back until they migrate to one of the P2 conferences. As much as people will handwring over facilities and stadiums, they have no real excuse to be as bad as they've been for most of this century.

Yeah, I may have miss-typed that, I meant the early 2000s was last time they were good.

Small private school competing against huge programs that have grown since 2000, while Miami has not. The facilities and stadium distance as mentioned above does not help either.

I've heard and read a few things over the years.

The 3 that seem to make the most sense are...

Off campus stadium - UCLA struggles with the same thing. Why fight traffic to and from a game when you can just watch on tv and save the expense and hassle.

Commuter school - I've heard that the U is more of a commuter school. This could hurt attendance even with an on campus stadium as a lot of folks may not want that extra day of fighting traffic.

Facilities suck - like it or not, you need top notch facilities to attract and keep top recruits. Especially in a state with as many D-1 schools as Florida has and with as many top notch out of state schools that recruit there.

Plus, it's not like this is a blue blood program with decades of history to fall back on. They had a great run of about a decade when they got back to back great coaches who were able to get a lot of local talent to stay home and were very loud. Outside of that, most of their history has been fairly mediocre.
