The teams that were disappointed they weren't in a better bowl so they didn't want to be there anyway.
Teams that had staff that have already bailed for new jobs elsewhere so who's calling plays?
All the activities in the host city and whatever impact they have on the kids energy/focus on the game.
Schools get a pay out whether they win or not and may have some of it distributed among the rest of their conference anyway.

There are so many reasons bowls don't mean anywhere near what they did in their hayday.

Remember when there were only like 10-12 bowl games in total?

I know the prevailing opinion of much of this board is the playoffs will rescue some of it, but I suspect there will still be kids bailing on playoff teams, coordinators that already accept new HC jobs, etc. Maybe not as many, but still a thing. There is too much money involved anymore not to negatively impact postseason play.

Honestly if you're not in a NY6 Bowl I don't think it's a huge stretch to say the bowls tend to mean more to the G5 teams, especially the newer ones (not an absolute just generally speaking). I don't even think that's necessarily a bad thing they just have different meanings now.

Teams should just start declining bowl games, especially if they are in top 25. With opt outs, you can't win. I guess they like the extra practice.

Extra practice and game reps for some young guys. The games just don’t mean as much as they used to. It sucks but it’s our reality

The extra practice is a massive benefit for player development especially with the reductions in practice time. It’s a big deal.

True but it still doesn't justify the SEC's brutal bowl performance the last 2 years. If teams are going to embarrass the league like Ole Miss that night, the SEC should just force them to forfeit and not play.

Honestly I could care less if the league is embarrassed or not as that isn’t the point and if teams don’t want to look like idiots then they should get better prepared.

What I do care about are young guys getting experience on the big stage and bowls have become defacto spring games anyway for the most part so no one should care.

Normally I don’t give a crap about lower tier bowls but I would have liked for Cadillac to have had an opportunity to coach a bowl game because that would have been cool for him and the players. It’s disappointing he didn’t get that shot.

Kiffin can be his own worst enemy but let’s face it he doesn’t have the QB that can run his offense either. Ole Miss under Kiffin will live and die by the QB position.
 
Could be a close one to get over .500. 1-3 now but I expect 5-5 or 6-4

Tennessee-Clemson - I would favor TN
Notre Dame-South Carolina - who knows what to expect with South Carolina but ND is a tough task with that defense -1
Ohio St - Georgia - Georgia favored by a lot then if they win they can boost the SEC record with a CFP final win. Could be +2
Alabama - Kansas St - interesting matchup but I favor Bama in this one +1
Iowa - Kentucky - another 50-50 matchup. QB play favors Kentucky +1

Yup, and good real life experience for the kid that will be replacing that opt out the following season. Isn't it like 15 extra practices the team can have if they go to a bowl? That's enormous.
