Random Thoughts After CFB Semi-finals

Here's the question that came to my mind yesterday. Is there really a significant difference between the #2 and #3 ranked teams and say other top 40ish teams? The #2 CFP ranked team needed a last minute field goal to beat Illinois. The #3 ranked team needed a last minute field goal to beat Baylor. I guess the answer to the question is there very well could be over the course of a season. But there really isn't for a single game. Which is why I'm looking forward to the 12 team playoff.
I also think the layoff plays a part in this. Its almost like a reset for these teams and they lose the momentum they had during the season

Get rid of....

targeting - it is a dangerous collision sport with miliseconds to react in a lot of instances. Seeing countless players ejected for unavoidable hits or just bang bang plays is absurd. This should stay ONLY in circumstances of flagrant hits.... but we have unsportsmans for that.

blindside blocks - a player blocking a player from getting to the ball carrier that results in a rough hit because the chasing player didn't keep his head on a swivle should not result in a penalty. The blocking player is doing what is supposed to be done in that case. IT IS A COLLISION SPORT, stop pretending it isn't.

We all love the big hits, don't pretend you don't. None of us want anyone to get hurt, but the big hits is a part of the sport and a highly entertaining part of the sport. If it was 2 hand touch, IDGAF if it's your school or not, no one wants to watch that. Stop with the virtue-signaling nonsense.

Also intentional grounding... if you can spike the ball to avoid or negate a part of the game, then you should not receive a penalty for "intentional grounding" to avoid a sack (i.e. a part of the game). That is exactly what a spike is and intentional grounding/incomplete pass that is in the box and not passed the LOS.

all 3 of those penalties should be removed from the sport.
I will also add the rule about a player having to leave the game for one play when their helmet comes off. That is stupid.

If a player takes their own helmet off that would be different but when a player's helmet comes off from the regular action of the play I don't like that.

Are you trying to say giving up two pick sixes and turning it over at the 1 yard line twice is funny? Ok.........it sort of was, but I will say this -- as soon as they overturned the TD pass to Roman Wilson, which I STILL don't see how they did, I turned to my buddy and said we are screwing this up somehow. And just like that -- we fumbled the next snap. FUUUUUUCK!!!!!
When you can't punch the ball in from one yard out or worse fumble it on the goal line you don't deserve to win the game. I felt the same way when Michigan-Ohio St played that infamous JT Barrett game in 2016. Michigan fumbled the ball on the goal line earlier. If they had scored the JT thing likely would have never happened

The intentional grounding rule is ridiculous

Another random thought:

I am tired of seeing @stakesarehigh compete in that stupid Dr Pepper Challenge EVERY year. Once? Fine, ok. But 5 years? And he isn't even still in school. And he is capitalizing on the gender fluid trend by appearing posing as a 20 year old college girl!

Tackling in college is so pathetic. At times to me, this seems to be the biggest difference between college and nfl. And really puts an asterisk on a lot of these “great” back and forth high scoring games. Like we saw with Michigan-tcu.

Doesn’t help that they are really limited on how much they can practice these days.

I told you that in confidence

This was the other reversal (timestamped):

So what I’m saying is, instead of everyone being pissed and calls being 1 for 2 in terms of correctness, everyone could be happy and calls could be 1-2 in correctness?

Since we are bitching and all I’ll throw something out that is getting out of hand, punching the ball out. Somewhere someone is going to get about 3 ribs broken when one of these guys winds up and misses. Strip the ball like a man, don’t punch like a girl. This is for all of football.

I don't think anyone is saying the refs were good. They were garbage and both teams suffered for it.
You made some kind of statement that "every reversal was wrong", which was of course, a wrong statement in and of itself.

Maybe the reason is because OU and texas are there? How good will these teams be in 10 years with less exposure and less money?

Them leaving won't affect the basketball negatively... not that anybody cares about that.

The story of this Bowl season is teams being up by two scores late… then calling defenses that let the other team immediately score.

The majority of replays were wrong. Which disproves the point of “rather getting things right” with replay.

Allow myself to quote myself, usc.

I agree -- I was just happy UM made it a game, because with the massive amount of mistakes they made -- it could have easily been a blow out. Our offense gave them 14 points and our offense gave away 14 points. So they could have easily blown us out.

We picked the absolute worst time to have our worst game of the year. We didn't turn the ball over 2 times in any game this season. We only gave up 13 points TOTAL on the year in 13 games and we gave up 14 in that game.

Was a train wreck all around. But even with everything that happened, we still had the ball with a chance to win.
