Saban ain’t a dummy. He knew he’d never have a chance to get the talent advantage in East Lansing he would at a LSU, Bama or the likes. Same reason Smart turned down offers to some of the lessers and waited on a Georgia type.

Okay, that's fair, but when comparing them to MSU over this decade time frame, LSU has been better, and even more consistent IMO.
 
My point is Nebraska has been down for 20 years and they're still 4-3 against Sparty since joining the Big 10.

I highly doubt they'd be 4-3 against LSU since 2011.

They aren't Bama, current UGA, OSU or Clemson, but they're probably 5th. Go back 5 years , 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, they are a top 5 program IMO. Does that make them elite, that's up to how people define elite.

Why? I never said they were elite either. I'm saying LSU isn't close to being on the level of Bama or current Georgia the overwhelming majority of the time.

Oh great, a team SEC nutswinger. Just what we needed. LSU, outside of a few years here and there, is not a consistent legit contender. They just aren't. Sorry that gets you (an Auburn fan) so weirdly pissed off.

LSU was not good in the 90s for the most part.

90s after the divisions formed

1992 2-9
1993 5-6
1994 4-7
1995 7-4-1
1996 10-2
1997 9-3
1998 4-7
1999 3-8

Only 2/8 seasons were they SEC west title contenders.

Beating that Louisville team wasn't that big of an accomplishment. They lost even worse to Houston that season.

The MSU down years over the last decade really dragged them down, but they have won 68% of their games while LSU has won 70%, so they're very close. I'm not saying MSU is elite, but I am saying LSU isn't elite the overwhelming majority of the time.
 
Love the revisionist history of the great SEC west deciding battles between LSU and Auburn in the 1990s

Auburn and LSU combined to play for fucking 1 combined SEC title in the 90s (to be fair woulda been 2 for Auburn if they werent ineligible in 93)

That game decided the SEC champ one time (1997) out of 8 seasons when there was a SEC title game in the 90s

I'm not saying beating that UL team was some great accomplishment, but it was the reason they finished ranked.

And yeah, MSU was very feast or famine the last decade. It was either top 15 or less than 6 regular season wins. Nothing really in between. But that's what makes LSU more consistent over this timeframe IMO. And yeah, they aren't elite year over year like Clemson, Bama, OSU and UGA currently have been the last decade. But they're in that next tier. And probably top 5.

The 2019 season is skewing things for them a bit I think, as that is the only season they haven't lost at least 3 games over that timeframe. They also do have the potential to be MSU-level bad, considering they were 11-12 between 2020 and 2021. My point was, that 2019 season aside, I'd say most years they're a solid team but not one that is going to make your schedule some sort of gauntlet.
