U of Texas' band goes on strike!

And Texas Longhorn fans wonder why their school sucks at football and can't get fans. Aggie represents Texas culture better.
So what's Knoxville's excuse?

By the way.. guns aren't getting handed over in Austin.. Y'all fall for this political shit too much.

As bad as this is, it is not near as bad as the Florida Gaytors cancelling Gatorchomp because of some obscure history about it being a way to mock African-American slaves in some obscure town in rural Louisiana in the 1800s.

Talk about random and dumb.

I didn't say they were but Austin is a hippie town in the middle of conservative Texas.

They banned it? I just saw them doing it this season

Tell me what College town doesn't have it's share of hippies, hipsters? That's what campuses are full of. But you act like the entire city is that way, when it's not. And what about attendance? Am I missing something here?

I try to imagine if someone suddenly decided that Boomer Sooner was anti-somebody and a bunch of 19 year olds who didn't build the University but are benefiting from it suddenly wanted to throw away decades of tradition.

I don't see the problem with this. That song sucks, especially when it's played 8,634 times during a game.

Repeating myself a bit here but after the OU/Texas game we went out to dinner with 3 other couples and two couples are big UT fans. One of them is definitely a BMD in athletics and the other couple gives substantially to the academic side of UT. Point is, they both support Texas with their $$$ and not just their voices in the stands. They both made a big issue of the Eyes of Texas friction in Austin. They don't like it at all. And they said a lot of the donors are severely pissed off at the students, professors, etc. for letting it get to this point. Just because a melody was used infrequently in a few minstrel shows decades ago does not make the song a racist homage to whatever vestiges of slavery may or may not still exist in modern Texas. They're willing to "go to war over it". I'm not sure what is going to happen but this woke stuff is tearing things apart. I try to imagine if someone suddenly decided that Boomer Sooner was anti-somebody and a bunch of 19 year olds who didn't build the University but are benefiting from it suddenly wanted to throw away decades of tradition. I would be hot too.

Gatorchomp wasn't the issue it was the cheer "gatorbait" they got cancelled....by product of hiring yankee doofus as school president and yes ridiculous. I hope lsu plays tigerbait chant ad nauseam and sends all those snowflakes running.

Pfft...they just skeered a Bailore

Well it is Austin....about the only city in Texas where guns would actually be handed in if demanded. Not all, but some.
It's also the State Capitol, Mike. A former governor would carry, even while jogging. He reportedly shot a coyote while out for a run. Keeping it weird isn't "left" or "right." It's Austin.

Says a lot about Texas as a program and school. The football team ( the financial bell cow) is a perennial underachiever and the “big” issue in Austin is a PC stance on a song that 3/4 Of the fan base doesn’t even know the words to.

at least, unlike another texas school that is 2 hours east of austin, doesn't have their rival as their focal point in their fight song.
