“The other side of that is blame, complain, deny or make excuses and we’re not gonna do that,” Mark Stoops noted. “Fans have that right, I’ll give it to them. I just encourage them to donate more because that’s what those teams are doing. I can promise you Georgia, they bought some pretty good players. You’re allowed to these days. We could use some help.

“That’s what they look like when you got 85 of em. So I encourage anybody that’s disgruntled to pony up some more (money).”

This is where we are in college football turning head coaches into beggars.

Kind of ironic coming from a school that paid a couple of brothers (four star recruits) to flip from Michigan to Kentucky.

Kind of dangerously close to the line there with the "Us/We" stuff.

The universities aren't supposed to be the ones doling out the NIL funds.

True. But the NCAA ain’t going to do anything though. Except change the rules to make such acceptable.

Yup

To believe coaches aren't 'somehow' directing where the NIL funds are being offered to recruits would be burying your head in the sand.

Just a matter of time before someone gets caught via email/text or other means.

1. We have beaten UK 14 times in a row, have a 63-12-2 edge all-time, we are 30-3 since 1990. So what did we do all those other times?

2. The irony of UK whining about "buying" players when they have been winning basketball championships forever with some players I am sure they paid for.

3. UGA really isn't out ahead in the NIL game. We play it for sure, but we have lost a lot of recruits for not getting into bidding wars.

At the end of the day, I think his quote is not what he meant. I imagine he and Kirby have spoken. They actually have a very good relationship. He's just trying to get more money for more NIL so he can stay up with Louisville.

it's a nice excuse for coaches to use now.. blame NIL and lack of money for players to obtain it and the blame comes off them.. But best he makes damn sure he's getting paid first and foremost

Gundy argues its pointless to invest in facilities and to just put the money into NIL.

“Don’t build it, put the money in the bank,” Mike Gundy said. “Put the money in the bank and spend it on NIL. That’s just the future, and I’m not saying I agree with it. I only know the sign of the times. … Players used to want to go somewhere for shiny new facilities and new uniforms and things like that — they still want to go somewhere where they win, but they also want the other stuff.

“I’m going to hypothetically build a situation: if you brought in 50 of our players and said we’ll NIL you $50-$60,000 a year cash or we can build you a new weight room and meeting room, which one do you want? They’re gonna take [the money], right? That’s what kids do nowadays.”

What is the equivalent amount of money needed for 39 points?

Everyone would make the same choice if those are the options

Probably, but you have to both, bc plenty of schools out there can afford both
Tell that to the “5 star hearts” and “I’d rather have a 3 star that’s always dreamed of playing here than a 5 star going to the highest bidder any day” crowd

Coaches are playing with fire when they make these kinds of comments. Fleck said something similar about his players. What they're saying is, "you're not good enough, but because we're didn't have more money for a really good player, we settled for you"

It's both or all. You need to have top facilities because other schools have top facilities AND they can pay $50K. And they can develop, and put players in the NFL, and they can compete for championships.

I’m buying the part about those players that know they won’t be going pro taking the money…as long as the don’t ignore the degree part. That should play a big role since they know the pros aren’t an option.

or how about you reduce your yearly paycheck and put that into NIL? He has a bad track record with players not liking him and leaving.. He just tells everyone it's cause of NIL.. some of those kids did not end up at P5.. they went G5 to get away
