That the final playoff rankings differ from simulated BCS rankings? I know they’ve had the order different in the past, but I think they’ve always had the same top 4?

(Also, BCS has Alabama over Texas, lol)

That's how it should have been. The BCS got it right. Texas should have been on the odd team looking out, even if they beat Bama. If you compare losses and wins, Bama had the better win (against #1 Georgia) and the better loss (against top 5 Texas). Texas should have been out because they lost to #12 OU. The reason so many people are upset isn't really because of Bama being in, it's really (whether they realize it or not) because Texas AND Alabama got in over FSU.

If “who had the better loss” counts more than “who won the damn game” in a head to head matchup that’s a lousy system.

Not only who had the better loss, but who had the better win(s).

It's well established that head to head matchups don't necessarily directly translate to team rankings. It's very common for teams to play, have similar or identical records and for the losing team to still be ahead.

What is against all things that we know and love about college football -- an undefeated P5 team getting left out of a 4 team playoff is the CFB equivalent of blasphemy. Being left out for theorized future success is crazy.

I imagine the computers loved Alabama. Lost in all this is Alabama had a really strong resume.

People are making this about FSU vs Bama. Again, the real problem is that two teams with 1 loss got in over an undefeated P5 program.

I agree with you there, but your take that Bama has a better resume and better loss than Texas when that better loss was TO Texas in Tuscaloosa is laughable

The argument should have been about Bama vs. Texas. I don't think anyone would have shed a tear if Bama was left out. I think it's wildly unfair that an undefeated P5 was left out for two teams with losses.

I don’t think it’s lost. Resumes, as presented on paper anyway, can be misleading and tweaked though. If you look at opponent record, UW doesn’t look as good because they played Oregon twice but don’t get credit for their record twice. Alabama gets credit for Chattanooga’s winning record. Looking at ranked teams, Tennessee could easily not be ranked.

At the end of the day all of the top 4 have good enough resumes. All had opponent records in the +, all beat several end of year ranked teams and a top 10 team.

Yes so that said.. if they have to put a SEC Bama team in then Texas has to be in too.

It’s all gay. The big 10 was awful. Best win was Notre Dame for the entire conference.

I love the people saying they didn’t want another TCU. Michigan never even led TCU in the entire CFP game last year

The biggest problem is people acting like the phrase "P5" instantly means "as good as all the other P5's". Bama had to play the undefeated, 2x defending champ to end the year while FSU got to play a Louisville team that was smoked by a terrible Pitt team and had just gotten beaten by the #8 team from the SEC before this last Saturday. FSU's entire resume was built on beating LSU while that was the 3rd toughest team Bama faced (and of course Bama also beat them by multiple scores). FSU can't control that their conference is shit, but Bama shouldn't be punished because they are forced to play a much tougher schedule.

Also, being on your backup or 3rd string QB, neither of which is very good, has to factor in. This isn't like 2014 OSU where both backups had proven to be high-caliber players.

I'm with ya and it pisses me off and I'm not even an FSU fan. Took some real mental gymnastics to leave them out.

Computers have an SEC bias.

Bama/The SEC were never getting left out. It was way easier for them to justify tossing FSU to the side and putting both Bama & Texas in than justify putting Bama in over a team they lost to h2h.

Jordan Travis getting hurt ultimately saved the committee from having to make the "we can't leave the SEC out! Even for a team that beat that team head to head!" decision that woulda pissed way more people off than FSU getting left out under the circumstances.

Honestly Michigan barely beat yall at their house with a retarded OSU QB and coach.

So we can’t hang at a neutral site with our backup and that running game and defense?? Lol

To answer the OP, yes this is the case. The previous years all would have had the same 4 teams, some seeding discrepancy, but the same 4 teams.

The best way to avoid this in the future for any team, even once the playoff is expanded, is come to the SEC or B1G. All other conferences are gonna be 2nd tier.

You can complain all day, lawsuits can be filed, current and former governors can bitch, but if FSU would've been in the SEC they would've had the best lobbying team in CFB behind them too and likely a SOS to back it up.

So, SEC bros from the state that smells like stale ass but gets me drunk every time I'm there, join up. We got a spot for you too.

Louisville also smoked Notre Dame who y’all barely beat. And that’s the best OOC win for the entire big 10. 2nd best is West Virginia by Penn St or maybe UNLV by Michigan

Lmao

If Clemson plays Penn St’s schedule they have the same record.

I wasn’t complaining in the OP. Thought it was interesting this is the first year the top 4 don’t match, and thought it was additionally interesting that it fixed the main cause of the drama with the committee rankings, but would have presented its own.
