HooplaNation's College Football Week 8 Ranking - Discussion Thread

Losing to #2 by 1 point as an away game should not put you behind any other 1-loss team.

#1 is tough.

Texas wins over Michigan and Oklahoma are not as great as Oregon over Ohio State and even Boise State at this point. But Texas closest game was their 19-point win vs Michigan. IMO, they are the most dominant team to this point.

Got a great laugh at Pitt #7
Yup, understandable. Not dominant in their wins but they are still 6-0. They will have a chance to prove if they belong up there later this season, but wins are wins IMO.

Thought Liberty at 12 was even more egregious. 105 in overall efficiency and 119 in Game Control. Pitt at least has a top 10 SoR currently, but they're still overrated in the top 10. I'm all about rewarding undefeateds, if the play has warranted it.

I honestly had no idea they were 6-0, but they're gonna have some tests coming up for sure.

I thought they were going to be something this year with Salter coming back but yeah, they've looked horrible. Nobody with a pulse on their schedule until their 11th game, and that's only Western Kentucky.

If Liberty is undefeated, they will be #12 at the end of the season. I don't see anyone that they should lose to, so just getting them where they should end up.

It's still too early in the season to get too worked up about where anyone falls.

Yeah, they've played the 180th SOS according to Sagarin, and have looked like crap against it. I too thought they would look better. If they would have played anyone with a pulse they'd have gotten blown out the way they are playing.

We got to stop ranking mediocre G5 teams for beating really bad ones IMO

I'm not so sure about that. At some point the quality of the team has to come into play. I can't think of anyone who would take an 12-0 Liberty over a 1 loss Boise or UNLV. Army and Navy, while also playing bad schedules, have looked a lot more dominant. If either of them beat ND, they jump to the front of the line if they stay undefeated. You just can't reward this schedule. It would set a bad precedent.

Is the committee obligated to take a 12-0 Liberty over any other 12-1 G5 conference champ? If not, I can't possibly fathom them doing so.

I don't think there is any G5 obligation.

I just feel that in the first year of "look, now we can include everyone" will turn into basically the NCAA doing an DEI thing and forcing one G5 into the mix.

They just have to take the 5 highest conference champions, but it's according to their own ranking so they can control it. The first rankings come out Nov 5th so we'll get an idea then, but I can't imagine liberty is included even if they are undefeated.

I don't want to force anyone, but I also don't value going unbeaten against an extremely bad schedule over having 1 loss against at least a solid schedule like Boise State.

Take one. They’ll be in the first round and have to travel, and it’s not some consolation bowl game their opponent will de facto opt out of. Let them get their obligatory ass kicking.
