I don’t wanna jinx anything but

Well, I’ve been an Alabama fan all my life and all I’m saying is is we’re not a playoff team. Again losses to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma should keep us out of the playoffs. I don’t really wanna go in there and get embarrassed by Penn State.

So Alabama has no shot of beating Penn State on a football field in 2024?

I’ve seen both play several times and I say they absolutely do, particularly with weeks to prepare and heal.

Not to mention how good the tv ratings would be and how good those types of matchups are for the sport. If Alabama or whoever else is not truly worthy then they will be defeated and sent home.

Hmmmm. I seem to remember good old ElTex arguing that in an extended playoff we’d no longer argue who the best team in the land is, but instead who deserves to get into the end of the season tournament. #alwaysright

FOUR teams is best. While in a rare year, one may argue the #3 team is the best in the land, only the truly bombastic would ever argue the #5 team is the best in the land in any year… and after the Champ just beat two of the best teams in CFP to win the natty, those bombastic arguments about the #5 would truly fall to the wayside.

If SMU beats Clemson Saturday I think the Tide is gonna be in the playoffs.

It is a coin toss on who wins the title this year. So may as well include Bama.

This year alone tells you 4 teams isn't the best. This year is the first time in as long as I can remember, people wouldn't be surprised to see any number of teams win the title.

The only teams I'd be shocked if they won the title is whoever represents the ACC, Big 12 and G5. The rest of the teams -- whoever gets healthy and hot during the CFP will win. It.

The point I am making here is that in a 12-team playoff, who should be there instead?

Even with three losses, Alabama has as much of an argument as being one of the 12 as anyone else.
South Carolina really only has two losses and deserves the spot over Bama. SEC refs put the screw job on em to protect LSU early in the season

Eliminate the committee and bring back the BCS rankings and allow that ranking system to sort it and take the top 12 teams. No AQs, top 12 only.

You wouldn’t be surprised if Indiana went on a run and won it all?

I keep forgetting about them. Yes -- they are included in the list of surprises.

I'd be surprised if they kept their first round game within a 2 touchdown loss

Surprise or not, if they get in and go on a run beating the likes of Georgia, Ohio St, and Oregon (hypothetically) then they deserve it. Same goes for the likes of Boise St, SMU, Notre Dame, etc... whoever did enough to make it deserves it if they go on a run and beat all the other good teams in consecutive fashion as well.

Honestly, I hope I get surprised. I would love to see Indiana beat Oregon for the title. Not just for the OD meltdown and massive cope, but as a general CFB fan, that would be hilarious and awesome.

Exactly. I would bet Vegas would have Bama as the favorite against Penn State. Even if they have to play @ Penn State.

These are Penn State's opponents and their records. One win against a currently ranked team. Thank goodness for Bowling Green and Minnesota or that would have been the only win against an opponent with a winning record.

@ West Virginia (6-6)
Bowling Green (7-5)
Kent State (0-12)
Illinois (9-3)
UCLA (5-7)
@USC (6-6)
@Wisconsin (5-7)
Washington (6-6)
@Purdue (1-11)
@Minnesota (7-5)
Maryland (4-8)

And those two teams would be???

Oregon and Texas
Didn't the BCS wait until after CCGs to determine the two teams? If those two win their CCGs, the BCS formula would have definitely spit those two out to play.

BCS would probably still be in play if it weren't for the Bama/LSU rematch. And the almighty dollar of course.

The almighty dollar will eventually expand it to 16 and then to 20.......etc etc etc

I am a Texas fan and I would take the field over both to make it to the champ game. The inaugural 13 team playoff may do down as the most unpredictable we will see in a long time
I agree and admit that in the past Id have to admit and agree that 2-3 maybe at best 4 teams was plenty as most others just didn’t have the talent and depth to really be considered a contender but now, with the NIL , player eligibility being extended and portal being factors.. things are just different.
I’ll still believe that the same blue blood types will end up winning it when it’s all said n done until I’m proven wrong but still, the road leading up to that happening in the end should be wildly entertaining.

With the hard on the committee and ESPN has for Alabama I cannot imagine a world where they are not "eye tested" into the playoff

I don't think so. Bama may creep into this week's playoff bracket, but they'll be leapfrogged after next week's conference championship games.

IMO, that's a good thing. This Bama team's entirely too inconsistent and I believe would be embarrassed early in the playoffs. They'd be better off accepting an also-ran bowl and calling this season a wash.

I am not sure Bama would get the nod over South Carolina. I know Bama best SoCar early in the year, but they have ripped off 6 straight. They are probably the team in the SEC nobody wants to play right now
Ok…so you blame Texas for FSU being left out last year, correct?

Where is all these people who cried last year that Texas HAD to stay ahead of Alabama last year despite Alabama having a MUCH stronger resume and being the better football team in December? Very hypocritical

No idea what that is supposed to mean, but why would you blame Texas? Bama was the 4th seed
