Can we just put an end to "bowl games" and come up with something different?

I didn't start watching college football until 1999. I loved the old conference championship games. Even though they were one-sided a lot of times. Some weren't though. Then, I absolutely lived for bowl season. Here I am, a teacher that gets around December 20 - January 3 off from work. That time off and bowl season were a match made in heaven. I remember at times, fans could brag about beating another team in a middle tier bowl game, and it at least meant a little something. Can't do that now when you have to put the waterboy, the low-level trainer, and the nearest convenience store worker in the game just to have a team.
Still have fond memories of the Jeep Aloha Bowl on Christmas Day and the Rose Bowl on New Years. Those were big events on my household

Article today says Michigan will have guys like Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Colston Loveland, Josiaih Stewart, Donovan Edwards, Will Johnson all sitting out the bowl game against Bama -- essentially every guy who will be drafted in the early part of the NFL draft (sans Donovan Edwards)

These games are so pointless now.
Here is what I am gonna say:

Anyone that does not like additional helpings of college football I am not sure I can be friends with. Hell, I might be tempted to report them to ICE and let them tangle with those angry fuckers for the next 3 months .

GET YOUR MIND RIGHT

I like the CFP games. Watching Michigan without all their top players against Bama, whose coach said their guys are playing. It'd probably be more entertaining tangling with ICE.

💯, Little Debbie needs to get her shizza together and sponsor a Nutty Buddy bowl.

And enough of this garbage of letting the sponsors pick the match ups, let the fans decide the matchups.

If that were the case (6-6) Nebraska would be playing (6-6) Oklahoma in a bowl game.

How fucking dumb are these city 'bowl game committees' for leaving that kind of money on the table?

Seats, Hotels, Restaurants, Bars, Ubers, would be packed. Huge revenue. But nope, we're too stupid.

Unless it’s for the Chip, it doesn’t matter. So, there’s nothing better than Bowls.
A bunch of pomp and cheesy awesomeness; you get to play teams from across the country that you’d never otherwise play.
Swag bags and chances to travel for players and fans alike.
It’s pretty rad. At least, as rad as it can be.

i'm more tired of the whining about lame bowl games than watching lame bowl games

I remember a few years ago when Baylor ran out of QBs the last couple of regular season games. They played UNC in a bolw and basically ran a modern version of the old single wing. Imagine an Artie Boy Briles team that didn't throw but one pass....but only because they didn't have anyone left that could throw it.
We did that vs Texas 2 years ago. Dillion Gabriel got hurt and we had no backup. We ran the wildcat the whole game with WR's and RB's. Didn't work out to well lol.

I doubt that. Now, if you're a player on one of the teams playing in the 'Scooters Coffee Frisco Bowl', you'll likely remember it as the high point of your life for decades...
Shewt mang, I still brag about all those wins we had against Big Ten teams in the early 2010's when Spurrier was still alive

Hey fuck you and fuck the Outback bowl!

i mean the only question is then based on your title what is something different than could be done?

Anything is better than watching the train wreck bowl games where the best players sit out. I was just in my car and they had the perfect comparison of what non-CFP bowl games are. They are akin to Spring Training Baseball games, where you watch games and you don't know who 75% of the players on the field are, but you watch because it is on.

Those going into the draft or portal are smart to sit it out. Good teams will have players ready to step in. It's a preview toward next year, and a chance to assess their needs for next year. Also, some of the players that have been sitting behind future will get some eyeball time. Nothing negative. If you don't want to watch, the Oprah network will be on.

So if a kid gets NIL money for playing football at a college and then that college goes to a bowl game and that player decides to sit out not because of health reasons or an injury, just because. I think that should be a breach of contract.

I used to love bowl games as well. I thought they were a lot of fun petting a lot of top ranked teams playing against each other. Yeah they may have been just exhibition games but there used to be some school pride or even player pride. So even though the school gives a kid an opportunity to play the game, the kid doesn’t owe the school anything. Thanks for the paycheck Coach. I’m sitting out at the bowl game. And fuck your fans.

The love and want of money has ruined college football

I don’t like the fact that every decision (or it seems like every decision) has been about money for a long time.

That said, the schools brought a lot of this own themselves. It was okay for them to take the huge amounts of money and use it for what some consider outrageous salaries, facilities and all sorts of bells and whistles.

But when the players said “Hey. How about us?”….. If they’d have set up a system to get some to the players when the money started getting huge, we might not be in this deep a pile of shit. jmo

I thought about this… If/when your team makes it to the playoff and then gets bounced first round, know what your gonna miss?

That’s right, wish there was a “stupid bowl game” to look forward to, it’s still December

I mean I get it. However, are they thinking they can’t get injured in a playoff game? On one hand, I get not taking the risk. But then, the money that poured in from the bowl games, some of it was used to outfit facilities with massage chairs, top notch locker rooms, state of the art strength and conditioning rooms, etc. Now players get all that when they come to Team X, but then the bowl games rolls around, and it’s like, “Nah, I’m good. I’m sitting this one out.”
