By stipulation and proposition due to their prolific airplay and popularity, the top three classic rock songs of all time are…
1. Stairway To Heaven
2. Free Bird
3. Hotel California

What is the 4th?

Let’s get the convo going with the likes of All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix), Aqualung, Whipping Post, Smoke on the Water…

I would put some dates around "classic rock".

Older folks see classic differently.

Just a thought. Not trying to ruin your thread.
Dates might not work since the Kinks were doing what I call “Classic Rock” the same year the Beatles were singing cheesedick songs about wanting to hold your hand.
But on the recent end, let’s not do anything past the hair metal era.

Cool. Hard stop.

How about She's a Beauty by The Tubes.

Several Kinks would show up on a top list somewhere.

Same with Clapton, zz top, and Allman Brothers.

I would take out Stairway from list as I think they are a fraud.

Ok, OK.

Running with the Devil. Van Halen. Takes next spot.

2) Bohemien Rhapsody shouldn't need the video to that one.

3) Beatles - Let it be. Brings a tear just thinking about it.

4) John Lennon - Imagine. We could use a poet like John Lenon today.

But on the recent end, let’s not do anything past the hair metal era.

The great thing about Rock Music is the inability to define it. What makes a rock song? Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, the Eagles, the Moody Blues, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, etc ... are so different. Popularity never played into greatness in Rock Music.

Tom MacDonald was influenced by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Marilyn Manson, Tupac, Eminem, and Aerosmith. He released the below song in 2024, how long does something have to be before it is a classic. Tom MacDonald offends a lot of people ... isn't that one of the charms of Classic Rock?
