79 years ago today the Japanese plan to knock out the American naval fleet in the Pacific had it's ignominious beginning. I'm amazed and dismayed that this day seems to be forgotten by so many in our country.

We should be thankful that for whatever reason(s) our Aircraft Carriers were not in port that Sunday morning because the outcome of the war in the Pacific theater might well have turned out quite differently.

I'd like to propose a toast to all the people, military and civilian living in and around Pearl Harbor at the time and especially all those that died :suds:

I am very surprised that I am the first person to reply to your post. I always Remember on Dec 7th.

Actions have consequences.

Perhaps had the Japanese never bombed Pearl Harbor, the United States never drops a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima.

"A day that will live in infamy" indeed.

They pretty well had all of China and Southeast Asia taken over, then decided to poke the bear and they lost it all.

They had to essentially.

Eventually we were coming for em. FDR had already demanded they leave China and cut ties with European Fascism, if they wanted peace. They opted to take the first swing.

Fate favors the bold. But we had more people and resources. And here we are.

That wasn't all Roosevelt did to piss them off. He also orchestrated an embargo on oil and other valuable raw materials.
