Work Holiday parties...did you do one?

Details, held via Teams:

We did a white elephant via some website tied to amazon. Pretty slick, worked well. Funny.
then we did some trivia games, and everyone was blitzed at that point. The trivia were "fill in the blank" types. Shit got sideways in a hurry.
ohhhhhh GIF

The white elephant through Amazon does sound super cool.

Initially I was going to point out we haven’t had a work holiday party in over a decade. But I forgot we do potluck/white elephants at work.

No one on my team was clever enough for this idea. Probably good as we would surely be waiting for an HR call too.

That's what our Chick-Fil-A owner did my last year of undergrad. He'd rent out the local Bar//Laser Tag/Arcade/Bowling Alley place for a few hours or host picnics on Sundays.
I'd share a drink with that fine citizen as well. Gotta appreciate the bench, take care of your people. Always been my motto.

It was great. You could enter your spending limit and it would restrict stuff there. I didn't even know about all the stuff I wanted. Then since we all (luckily) have Prime the shipping was free. Worked great.

Your boss sounds like a stand up dude. I'd like to have a beer with him. or her. whatever.

He's a logger/hunter.

But usually there's be a big feast for the hourly guys.

And he'd take us out for lunch (office types) as well. To his favourite restaurant.

He sits down and orders a double white crantini. Gulps it down and orders another. And then sips a third as well. We can have 2 or 3 pints to go with lunch if we so choose. Lunch lasts 2 hours so if you nurse the 3rd pint and eat you are good to drive back to work.

I gotta say, I miss the work lunches and "team building" but love not having to govern my drinking for the drive home. I know, I know..."traffic is the drunks best friend" but I still wouldn't let myself get there. Being able to get plastered has been enjoyable, until the one guy that can't handle his liquor makes comments that I will have to answer for.

That's still the best place I've worked from management-wise. He used our built-in day off Sunday for team building at least once a month. Super accommodating, too. Made sure everyone got off for Spring Break and my last semester I had to work around the Mizzou baseball schedule and he did it no issues once I gave him the days.

And you'd probably run through a brick wall for him. That's how I treat my people. They know I'll die on a hill to get them where they want to go, and I haven't had to post an opening in half a decade. People are lining up to work on my team. Which is what I don't get about coaches or other leaders...build the bench and it will pay off for you ten-fold.

If I drink more than a few beers, I just call for a ride. It ain't that hard.

Yeah he was the best. Hell of an owner too with how well things usually ran on the operations side. I got him a card and a bottle of wine after he wrote one of my grad school letters which seemed like the least I could do for everything.

We just did. I 100% expect a call from HR on Monday. Not joking. Not about me. Super dangerous to be doing these when people aren't restricted with "I gotta drive home".

About 2 weeks ago, we got a missive from HR warning the entire company not to socialize outside of work hours. We're not even supposed to go out for drinks (I don't know where), unless we go home first.

Now we're all waiting to see how flowery the CEO's message will be next week.
