EPL 2020/2021

And as if Tuchel will do any better. Mourinho, Grant, Sarri, and Conte have all mentioned how the manager there basically has no say on transfers, and usually even line-ups. I'm sure they called Allegri (probably Nagelsmann too) and he sees how they treat managers and how they run their club and probably told them to piss off.

Abramovich and his cronies are basically the Jerry Jones of European football.

I read an article in The Athletic about it. According to them, Chelsea had reached out to several big name managers and none wanted anything to do with a partial year job. Even Tuchel turned them down at first before reconsidering.

It's really a no-win situation for any manager there.

They did call Nagelsmann and tried to poach him mid-season. He said no!

Tuchel brought in to deal with the German head cases there. Tuchel, there is a reason why he is available. Had PSG with Neymar and Mbappe in 3rd place or something. Other big clubs in England should be ecstatic Tuchel got hired at Chelsea. Pretty much every German is a head case in European football other than Muller, Kimmich, and Neuer right now.

Good. Glad the NBC may get fucked. Fuck them.

I am definitely getting to the point of bailing on cable for good. You can see the a la carte stuff taking over. Which makes sense i guess

Sports. Only thing that’s needed. News? Gtfo with that gay shit. What else, yep nothing. No good shows are on shit cable. Need tits and curses for a show to be good.

Yep sports are it. It's almost worth paying for the different passes then. Football is the only thing you can't get without cable. But you can get locals on antenna

It’s great to hear EPL execs are not happy with the amount of games hidden on Peacock. Christ, at this point I don’t know how NBC can believe they’ll get the new contract. And maybe thats what they want. But that article hit it straight on when it said the next deal is big, especially in the US. That encompasses the 2026 World Cup which is mostly in the US. They’ll want people following soccer before and then after And can broadcast commercials tying the two together. That won’t happen on just streaming sites IMO.

But another issue I see is where do they go? Some of those comments were spot on. ESPN is likely to hide most games on plus between august and January. Or they could put games on espnews, but is that really better then what nbc is doing? Will CBS put any games on their big Channel? Or are we looking at most being on Paramount (their peacock)? Every other option looks like a streaming site. There doesn’t seem to be an easy answer.

Of those, I see ESPN as the best option. Yes, they'll put games on ESPN+, but they'll have all the games (at least for Serie A and Bundesliga they do), and would most likely show big games (ManU/Liverpool as an example) on one of their channels.

NBC would probably be more of the same, CBS, IMO would be the same, if not worse than NBC.

ESPN+ is worth the price in my opinion, you get every game from Bundesliga, Serie A, English Championship, FA Cup, Coppa Italia, Eredivisie, and some others, on top of a lot of other sports.

I have Peacock, but only for EPL, if it goes away, I don't need to pay for reruns of The Office and Seinfeld.

Not too long ago, ESPN was hemorrhaging money and laying off employees all over the place. Hard for me to imagine them having the capital to make a big investment to carry another sport, especially when 1/2 the season will be running up against their prime CFB and NFL programming.

From a programming perspective, it worked out perfectly for NBC because the only american football they carried consistently was ND games on saturdays.

It if goes to almost exclusively streaming, I won't mind much because I probably already pay for that service. I might get to drop Peacock if a different streamer gets the rights. I can't see the EPL thinking its a better deal for them though.

They're owned by Disney so long term cash isn't an issue. Most of the layoffs are/were Covid related specifically during the sports shutdown, no games plus no advertising dollars coming in equals loss of revenue (other networks were the same).

I don't think it would exclusively streaming, mostly yes, but I'm sure they'd show at least one game a week, especially big games, for example, they show all Serie A games on ESPN+, but I have seen games like Milan v Inter or Juve v Napoli on on of their channels.

I also think they would likely show more EPL games as it is significantly more popular in the U.S. than the other European leagues.

As far as head to head vs CFB or NFL, most games are early, so before those games are on. Most EPL games are at Noon (7 am US time) or 3pm (10AM)

They have their pregame shows for both college football and the NFL though, and that's a major staple of ESPN's weekend programming.

The pandemic hurt ESPN, no doubt, but there were cracks in that foundation prior to COVID. They've been overpaying for television rights for years. Disney isn't exactly doing great either. Their Disney+ stream is a good money maker for the company, but they have been absolutely crushed by the pandemic shutting down or at least minimizing foot traffic in their theme parks.

I won't care either way, as long as I can continue to watch Spurs games somewhere.

Oh yeah I can’t watch my Chelsea under new leadership because of peacock. Fuck your nbc. Fuck you. I hope the EPL fucking drops NBC. Worthless fucks.

I agree with ever single thing you stated.

I will add if the EPL would sign with ESPN, ABC is another option to broadcast games. Especially in the spring. ESPN makes the most sense unfortunately. I still hate them but I would watch.

Manchester United laid an epic turd today. I now see Man City winning the EPL. Sheffield United? Oh boy.

Tuchel there you go. Couldn’t break down Wolves in boring 0-0 draw. That is the Tuchel Bayern knew and loved at Dortmund lol.

I have Peacock thankfully on Comcast so was lucky to see the games today. Best game was Villa choking at Burnley. Burnley having quite a week. Well out of regulation now.

Just watched the highlights. Wtf were they doing on that second goal? McGuire got caught almost dribbled it right through De Gea then just absolutely lethargic defending. Everyone standing around in the box, just begging for the deflection. I’d been screaming my ass off if I was ole “fantastic” Ole.

I agree. Not sure if the EPL care but if I'm going to pay for a streaming service to watch soccer then I prefer to do it all in one place like ESPN+ where I'm already getting Serie A, Bundesliga, and FA Cup.
