Wednesday: A Thread for Posts

Feels like 104 outside. Isn't it supposed to be "autumn" soon?

We kicked around the idea of just not setting vacation days, but then we feared that people actually wouldn't take what they deserve because they weren't explicitly given time.

But as owners we all have an unwritten agreement that we'll give everything to the business and take the time we need when we need it.

And there hasn't been a vacation without a work call in years, so it isn't like I tell everyone to fuck off and shut off my phone.
We set it at 3 weeks to start, but we don’t really count them unless we start seeing someone abuse it.

I've had friends get that no set or "unlimited" vacation time which sounds fun in theory, but yeah I think I would hate it cause I'd constantly be wondering if any vacation time is too much, and trying to compare it to how much my co-workers are taking, etc rather than knowing we all get the same amount
I have unlimited, and take 3 weeks or so every year. I figure it was where I was at my last job, so I should probably be on that seniority level anyway.

Taking my annual bloodborne pathogen training. This one is pretty dramatic. Dude gets stabbed with a needle...knocks over a trash can of which a woman slips and cracks her skull open...I'm expecting a fatality by the end

Sounds like ours.

First few years our disaster contingency training was "flood", last year's was "airplane crashes into the building, carrying nuclear material".

Well...okay.

last year I logged the most work hours and the most vacation hours. And that didn't even count the MANY travel hours from spending 20+ weeks in Wisconsin. I dare somebody to say I took too much vacation.

Add in all those visits with your in-laws and I’d say it’s way too much.

Fucking relatives. One of my favorite cousins called, said she's selling her house and farm, needs somewhere to put her horses and her niece's horses. I said sorry, the only part of this farm unused has no fence and is surrounded by a bean field right now, you can't get to it without trampling the beans. She says her niece would be glad to put up a fence, I said that's a lot of fence, plus the beans are still there, sorry no.

Now the wife calls saying she got a message from my other cousin, sister of the first one that called, mother of the first one's niece, saying she wants my phone number.

I guess she thinks she can charm me into saying yes. I like her a lot less than the other cousin.

No means fucking no, dammit. What's so hard to understand?

my in-laws live 10 minutes from me.
My understanding is that visiting parents constitutes vacation. Even if you work while visiting.

I don’t make the rules.

I long for the days of too much vacation.
The master plan is to rejoin IBM at some point and just do the bare minimum until they lay me off... though bare minimum is still a 2 rating there, so the layoff may never happen.

"Everyone stay calm I am an expert in handling nuclear material thanks to the five minute class I was playing candy crush during"

Whoever said that is dead wrong.

Don't lawyer it up

They explained the nuclear scenario as needing to emphasis the "long lasting effects" of the event.

Like a plane crashing into the building is a re-open after the weekend job.
