Goodfellas.

And I don't think it's even close.

Goodfellas.

There’s the kind of chatter I was looking for, specific to the question.

I personally think The Godfather is appropriately rated in culture. I love it.

I just have always loved Goodfellas so much more. Part of it maybe is that this is based on real people and events (for the most part....lots of talk that Henry Hill was never this guy) and The Godfather wasn’t real.

GF and GF Pt II would get my nod as favourites. I prefer the style.

Just came back from a few days in NYC and, strangely, I am watching a bunch of mafia stuff.

So....putting it right out there...which one is the best mafia movie.
I am a BIG movie guy annnnnnd I still have not seen any of The Godfather movies. Before I just couldn't bring myself to want to sit through 3+ hrs per movie, but now that I am ready to make that commitment (lol) it isn't streaming anywhere or at least any of the services I have.

Goodfellas is excellent and used to be one of my top 3 movies, but over time and after so many viewings... I honestly got tired of it. It is still good, but I think I prefer to watch The Departed.

Also to mention some movies that are similar to mob style... Scarface, Snatch, GoNY, A History of Violence, The Town.

I don't know if you have seen it, but you should watch Peaky Blinders on Netflix. That is a great mob show.

But A Bronx Tale is a great one, whoever mentioned that first, that is a good one.

Being a big movie guy it’s worth it when you can make that time...at least for the first one. If you can find the version that combines I and II that’s optimal, but it’s very long too. Don’t even bother with Godfather III. No matter how you do it it is long....but amazing. Not as much for being a mob movie as just being a really well done movie about the mob.

I rewatched Goodfellas last week for the first time in years (it’s what prompted the OP)....and it was very good. But, I get where you say you just got tired of it. Even after a few years of not watching it I had to remember how blown away by it I was when I first saw it.

I really like the Departed....but my first watch of it didn’t blow me away even close to what my first watch of Goodfellas did.

Maybe that’s a key to any movie or show I rewatch....how did I respond to it the first time I saw it.

That was a lame Goodfellas wannbe.
Disagree. That one stood on its own. Not as good as Goodfellas to me....but it’s the same mold of a relatively true to life story being told. And it was an amazing movie.

Ohhhhh....I just didn’t think if this in a mob movie sense. It’s easily one of my top three all time movies period.....but you’re right. They only have that setup at the motel with the chair that is bolted to the floor for people like the mob.....initially.

Bonus mob point is the associate who gets his nuts crunched in the bar. Ha.

King of New York.

All star cast, lots of drugs, killing, sex, and corruption.

Exquisite.

Fair enough, I thought it was a lame Goodfellas wannabe.

Casino is my personal favorite. Loved Goodfellas also. Michael Franzese does mob movie reviews on his Youtube channel. He discusses how accurate they portray the mob life.

This is a good one though not a mob movie. It is out on Amazon Prime right now

Not really. They are both based on true events although they changed some of the facts of the story. Each is different.
