This actually doesn't surprise me. K and Roy see what the new transfer rules are doing to the game and it is only going to get harder and harder to stay both on top and manage the team that you have. The built-in advantage of being a blue blood and getting the kids on campus isn't enough anymore because even if you get them keeping them on campus is a 1000 times harder.

New transfer rules
It's made college basketball a nightmare to manage. Bruce Pearl is going to have 4 new starters next year that weren't even on the team this past year and that isn't unique. The teams that are going to make runs are the ones that can keep a group of guys together for multiple years and build the chemistry necessary to win it all. The one and done model will get you to a final four but it isn't producing natties.
Auburn's fun to the final four was fueled by veterans that 3 years of experience for the most part and the chemistry was incredible.Yeah this isn't 2012 where you can start 3 FR and 2 sophomores and win a title like UK did with AD, MKG and Teague. Or hell even 2015 with Ja, Tyus Jones and Justice Winslow. Plus recruiting has become more spread out than I can ever remember in the last 5 seasons or so. Just look at the recent drafts. In 2016 you had Ben Simmons who went to LSU, in 2017 you had Markelle Fultz who went to Washington, in 2018 you had DeAndre Ayton who went to AZ, 2019 was Zion, but 2020 was Anthony Edwards who went to UGA. And now this year it looks like it will come down to a guy who went to USC or Oklahoma State, hardly traditional powers.
The way to have great success is to have experienced teams. Only 2 teams since 2010 have won the title in which I would call inexperienced. The two I mentioned above. Just look at Baylor's roster construction from this past year. RS JR transfer from Auburn in Mitchell, JR transfer from Bama in Butler, RS SR transfer from UNC-Asheville in Teague, 22 yr old Flo Thamba and, 24 yr old Mark Vital. I think those types of teams are going to be what wins it next year. Now that could ultimately prove to be wrong just because Gonzaga is going to be loaded with elite FR, but it wouldn't surprise me to see a team like Nova, UCLA(with Juzang) Kansas, and some other under the radar type of teams.
Yep. These times they are a changin'. We'll see who adapts and who doesn't.This actually doesn't surprise me. Compared to Roy Williams, I have all the respect in the world for Coach K.
Coach K. has got to be one of the most arrogant, condescending sons-'o-bitches in college basketball history. Just a notch better than everyone else he is!![]()
I hate one person on Earth and he's doing 45-life in Pelican Bay.you really hate quite a few people, huh Hammer?
who is that?I hate one person on Earth and he's doing 45-life in Pelican Bay.
If you think my opinion that Coach K. is a condescending asshole is "hate" you have an odd definition of hate.![]()
