Fan hits him in the back with a baseball traveling 40 MPH. Instead of just tossing the ball to another fan, Verdugo decided to delay the game to pitch a hissy fit and rat out a fan.

It didn’t hurt you pussy, no need to get someone kicked out and potentially arrested because you’re an overly sensitive pussy.

Your team might have had time to come back to win the game before the rains came if you didn’t want some attention and sympathy.

Pussy ass tattletale narc.

Ginger playing for Boston, so he’s probably racist too.

Every stadium should be a very hostile environment for the road players, and you get paid enough to take it.

Fuck you Alex Verdugo

getting hit in the back with a baseball? and you think he should just shrug it off?? either you're coasting on that 'shine right now, or you're more of a dumbfuck than i originally imagined. what's his other option? climb the wall and attempt to get up into the seats to throw hands with the fan? why, so he can be kicked out of the league? how fucking stupid are you?

Can't we all just agree that Yankee fans are soulless pieces of trash?

Hit in the back with a soft toss. It didn't hurt him. Pick up the ball, toss it to a kid and keep the game moving. No need to delay the game because your feelers got hurt. And being a tattletale is 10 ply.

Pretty long delay too. His team would have had another at bat to try and comeback before the rains came, but me first attention whore en sech. No different than when Giancarlo Stanton tried to show up Mike Fiers on a homer when his team was losing to a rebuilding Tigers team.

The only real baseball fans in New York are Mets fans.
They'd pretty much have to be dedicated, with that organization. The Yankees, from owner to fans, expect to make the playoffs and win the pennant every year, and then act like complete assholes when it never happens. If they'd at least fire Cashman, then perhaps I could appreciate some amount of intelligence.

They remind me an awful lot of Philadelphia sports fans.
It's a tough one to say who has the worst fans. I suspect sometimes that Philly and NY fans only exist so as to answer the question, "Who's worse than Boston fans?".

The Yankees are the Michigan football of baseball, acting like we should give a shit about their dominance in the last century.

And their "fans" are completely ignorant of the game outside of the Yankees.

"We could fix this team by trading for Mike Trout"

-actual caller on a New York sports talk show

And FTR, going into the stands and fighting won't get you kicked out of the league. When Frank Francisco threw a chair at a fan and broke a woman's nose and cut her up in a September game, his punishment was being suspended the rest of the season(which was nearing an end anyways).

i admit that i only read about it, didn't actually watch the footage; if it was just a soft toss (as in, underhanded toss that barely touched him), then sure, he probably overreacted. i was under the impression that the fan beaned him good with it, from relatively close range.

that was in 2004; if you don't think the perception of fan/athlete interaction climate hasn't changed drastically since then, especially considering that manfred wasn't the commissioner back in 2004, then you're wholly retarded.

At worst, he'd get a month suspension, and given he cares more about his feels than his team winning a game, the Red Sox would probably be better off without him.

I get the point on the delay causing the postponement, and in that respect it was dumb.

But….I also have a feel for what’s going on here. The players (of all major fan sports) have talked about this for a long time. That fear that fans are going to come at players (a la that White Sox game years ago).

Players as a whole were not going to play the game again until that fan was shown out, and the message was clear to the rest of the fans there (and on TV of course).

I get the bitchy optics on that….but I also get the deeper context here.

not a chance. he'd be gone for the rest of the season and all the yammering talking heads would be talking about it for days/weeks on end, comparing to malice at the palace and whatnot; he'd be incredibly lucky if he were allowed back to the league within the year.

Which would be the baseball world's gain
