cant disagree with this either,
put if the pac is gonna make a move,
(which isnt lookin likely yet),
tech would be a good choice -
(with ok-st, as well)
PAC 12 needs to put Cal and Stanford in their place. THey are about as arrogant a bunch of pricks as there is. They spew shit about diversity and stuff. Hell, they wouldn't know what to do around some country folks. They think that white horse USC has is something...wait they have to see a high strung jet black quarter horse enter the stadium. (Just hope it doesn't have a girl from Highland Park or some place similar in the saddle.) And, they need to come to Lubbock when there's a good stiff South wind blowing right after a rain. Let those stiff necked high falootin' folks get a whiff of the wet feed lot aroma blowing through Jones Stadium.

That there is one Powers Boothe, a Snyder HIgh School grad....just like me. Except a lot more famous but not on this Earth any longer.

If the wind is strong enough from due North, you won't need any rain. You have Amarillo.

That's what I'm hearing. The PAC isn't convinced expansion is the move right now. But if they did, TT and Oklahoma State would be the top targets.

There's little to no interest in TCU, Baylor, or Kansas State.
The two most important schools for the PAC in this scenario is 1 Kansas and 2 TCU. Kansas is an absolute blue blood in the second most important sport with a money making athletic program while TCU gives you the Dallas Fort Worth Market and a decent football school. Adding Junior and TT makes the most sense. It’s honestly not a horrible addition considering what’s available.

That's how I see it playing out IF the remaining Big 12 schools can keep their collective heads. The PAC. ACC, and Big 10 can help them in that process by standing pat themselves.
Here’s the problem though, any one of the orphan schools is jumping (nor do I blame them) if given the opportunity. $19mill is nothing compared to the security and what they’d make in a P4 conference now. It’ll be on those other conferences to stand Pat and honestly if the B1G or PAC can hold off on Kansas they probably will. Unfortunately no one adds head turning value of the orphans left.

$19 million in the green is a lot more than $76 million in the red if KU (or anyone else for that matter) panics and is first to jump ship. That GOR doesn't only apply to TX/OU even though they've made their intentions clear they'll not renew their GOR's in 2025.

That's why TX/OU lawyers were smart enough to put language in their letter that they both intend to see the contract through to 2025 even though they likely have no intentions of doing so. They're sitting back with a jigger of whiskey and a big fat cigar hoping somebody flinches.

As hard as it'll be to do, everybody needs to stand pat until the TX/OU logistics are settled. That includes the Big 10/PAC/and ACC.
If TX/OU opt to pay the penalty and be out of there by the 2022 football season, the tv payout for the 8 remaining teams will drop from current $35 million to about $10 million each. That is because the TV contracts have a clause in them that the providers can lower their payouts to the Big 12 conference if members were to leave. Well TX/OU combined are responsible for about 50% of that total tv revenue.
Once the SEC votes/approves the TX/OU expansion and a timetable for entry is set, the handwriting will be on the wall. The 8 members can get together and agree they can't make a go of it at $10 million, to not do any further damage to each other, and disband the Big 12 going into the 2022 football season.
At least they'll get their $35 million + $19 million (for this season) next May.

Red, wouldn't it be smart of the remaining Big 12 schools to stick together and collect the $10m per year share? I'm sure that has to be at least a couple more mil more than whatever the MWC or AAC conferences pay out per school, right?

I think that's like Big East basketball money, but not 100% sure. They'll be going G5 anyway, no?

AAC: $5.3 million each for 2019/2020

OUCH!!!!
That's what I'm saying.. maybe take the 10 mil for now and make Bowlsby actually do his job and sell the individual schools on being solid. Stay at 8 if that lets them get 10 mil.. 7 conf games, 4 OOC games.. pad records and hopefully give a solid showing vs other P4 competition?

I think the questions are.. Will the GOR penalty stay the same ($76 mil) once TX/OU are out of there, or will it be reduced significantly to better reflect the new lower income level?
With that big of change could a few of the remaining schools say "That's not what we agreed to, so the GOR is now void"?

I don't know the answer to those questions. I just know in many cases a business (or a conference in this case) would be obligated to provide what it contractually promised. Without TX/OU the Big 12 can't deliver even half of what they promised to the remaining members.

In those cases it would behoove KU, Okie jr, TT, WVU or someone else to make the Big 10, PAC 12, or ACC jumps.

BTW: The Big East payouts (basketball) is only about $5 mil/per.

I see @ralphiewvu 's point in that schools can just tell the Big 12 to keep their $19 mil share from TX/OU on agreement they'll be cut loose without any further penalty.

Again.... Nobody do anything until the TX/OU timetable matters are settled. SEC voting seems to just be a formality so that should be rather soon.

Jeez. 15 pages since I checked this thread.

Anyways sorry if already posted but I'm not reading all that. If not, here is Thujone nirvana

So my Longhorns stabbed everyone in the back except ou? Yeah because the rest of the conference had places to go back in 2011.. hell they offered unequal revenue (that aggy, NU, ou, UT already were getting). Yet Texas said no, everyone get the equal share for it's two tier of rights and everyone owns their tier 3.

Those same schools made more money than PAC and ACC schools.. and for 10 years.

Landscape has changed but if y'all wanna all of the sudden have a place in your hearts for Baylor, KSU and Iowa St be my guest.

Don't matter the pure evil is now in the SEC

#HookEm.. see you Thanksgiving '22 @fordman84
Correct. you need to ride OU's coattails, and all their conf championships and their playoff appearances.

Kansas doesn't appear to be in the cards. They prefer the Big Ten and the PAC is concerned their football program will only damage the perception of the PAC. TCU isn't in play. There's very little interest in adding them.

Yeah I think people are over reacting thinking conferences having an arms race right now. You don't expand just for the sake of expanding. I'm sure FOX is in the BiG ear to tell them which schools add to the pot and which ones take from it.
