State of Nebraska vs Big Ten

winning the North 8/15 years wasn't good enough for them.. 1-9 vs UT was too much, glad they are happy in the BIG West.

They are getting more irrelevant in the B1G West. They can't recruit and they have no national exposure anymore.

As a Tennessee fan, we have taken our lumps but at least we have hope. We can still recruit and still get attention and fan support. Now it is just about having the right players and coach to get back into the hunt

You can still recruit?

You can recruit better than Nebraska, by a little bit, but... You're not recruiting that well.

When was the last time Nebraska had a top 10 class? top 15? TN has had 2 top 10 recruiting classes over the past 5 years (2015, 2020) and are trending for another top 10 finish this cycle..

Nebraska? In the past 5 cycles the two highest classes have been ranked #17 and #20. Currently they are ranked 23 with 18 commits. Doubt that gets into the top 10 even if they took a full 25 man class.

So yes TN is recruiting better than NE, but Nebraska isn't closing that gap. WI clearly recruits better than them in the BIG west.. while TN still has a way to go to compete vs GA and FL in the SEC east.

So they both are relatively similar in that they are below two teams in it's own division (WI and IA for NE, FL and GA for TN).

I said they recruit better than Nebraska, but I wouldn't brag about 89 average classes. It's good, but not enough to win shit

They have higher amount of 5 star, high 4 star players too.. but i agree, they both are in purgatory.. thing is.. if either of them had a "break through" season and won it's division with a real shot of being in the CFP with a CCG win.. Who of the two would you bet on that would make the most of it through recruiting? I say TN because of where they are located.. You really have to be committed to stick through those cold winters out in Lincoln..especially if you aren't winning.

Ugh... we have been in the top 10 in recruiting rankings under Pruitt. Butch Jones also recruited top ten classes but blew it in 2016 when we should have won the SEC East.

Do you even watch CFB?

Nebraska's at the same level you guys were last season (recruiting talent wise).

You guys still need another 10 4/5* guys on the roster to compete (or have great coach)

As cited by other posters, we have recruited well over last 10 years, we just haven't performed consistently on the field plus we have the gauntlet of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia every year. If you take out those 3 teams, we don't look that bad. Florida and Georgia would both dominate the B1G West right now. In fact the only team in the B1G that is on par with both of them is Ohio State and maybe Penn State some years.

My point is, I think Nebraska, from a football perspective, would have been better off staying in the Big12 North.

They would have been better off when they could admit 5th grade reading level kids who can run very fast onto campus and have 200 walkons.. mix in some of the elite medicines only swanky GYMs could envy.. and BOOM..Nebraska is back, no matter which conference it's in

This comment is fucking stupid. They still had to meet academic standards before stepping foot on the field. You do know that, right?

Funny as hell coming from a fan of a team of a conference that was known for its cheating ways.

lol Trans Am? It's the Big 8.. it's more like Ford Probe's
You joined the Big 8, not the other way around. All Big 8 members were in the conference whereas only 4 SWC teams made it. Not to mention, the SWC was rarely good.

lol oh spare me the high academic standards at freaking NEBRASKA.. Prop 40 or 44 is how you were able to work it.. and yes the SWC cheated.. by paying money to players.. although Texas was never implicated in those sanctions.

I thought it was a joint agreement.. but yeah Texas joined and bullied there way to the top behind the scenes.. Speaking of rarely good.. How's your season going?

since we're on the topic

why did the Big 8 allow their own lineage to be discontinued after the SWC collapsed? i know the Big 8's geographical footprint wasn't ideal, but it wasn't like they were on the verge of collapse

ou was in sanctions, and they were all losing money.. Nebraska although very good at football couldn't foot the bill.. Texas was being drowned with too many schools in the same region. Now it could probably kept the original SWC going, but in the 80's and early 90's it just wasn't feasible. so they came to a handshake agreement.

Big 12 was a really good geographical fit.. but egos.. I do fault ou for not keeping the nu game annually. The conference was going to make that a permanent game despite being in different divisions.. ou said no.

yeah, i get that

but couldn't the Big 8 just have added the four Texas schools, while retaining it's own history? Big 12 was formed as a brand new conference. was Texas just resistant to the idea of joining a conference based in Kansas City?
