Pleasantly surprised the Giants are still in the hunt.

The AL looks pretty much set.

Reds are dangerous if the get in. A much tougher matchup than the Giants for the 1 seed

Chances are, if the reds get in, they would pass the Cards in the standings as the number 2 spot in the Central. This means, as of now, they would be paired with the braves.

I'm gonna say the Braves edge out the Cubs for the 2 spot.

Not that I was particularly high on the Phillies to begin with, but I don't like their playoff chances at all without Arietta. Nola, Wheeler, then shit in the rotation at this point.

Nola and Wheeler is as good of a 1-2 punch as any for the Wild Card round, but like the Braves they’re gonna have to score runs to advance

And that's going to be a problem if Rhys Hoskins isn't healthy.
If Soroka didn’t get hurt, I’d really like our chances with Soroka-Fried-Anderson-Hamels, luckily we score more runs than any other team in the Majors, and that’s our best shot

All it takes is 2 wins to advance to the Divisional Round. Any team that has 2 really good starters has a shot vs. anyone in that round. 3 game playoff series is pretty messed up.

How many more games are left? I know they said 60 but some teams might not hit that. Just feels like there is more time for shifting in the seeds.

Most teams have between 10 and 13 games left. Miami (14 still to play and on the schedule) and St. Louis (17 to play, 15 on the schedule) look like the only contenders with more than 13 to play. Cards won't make it to 60 games played.

Its a pipe dream, but I've already started talking myself into it. If Fried comes back pitching like he was, Anderson continues dealing, and Hamels does what he is capable of...i think they have a shot. Maybe, Ynoa or Wright continue to improve and can give you a solid 4-5 inning outing (possible folty return).

But again, its an if on every single guy, and a total pipe dream. But I'm already falling for it.

I’ll be pissed at the time if we lose the DS, but at the end of the day, I’ll be happy to just end the playoff series losing streak

Won't they have to play 60?

I'm not gonna feel that way. This is the best 1-9 hitting lineup the Braves have ever had....& I'm old & can remember a lot of lineups. It is also, by FAR, the greatest bullpen in Braves history & 2nd ain't even remotely close. GOT TO have decent starts in the postseason & there's a chance to win the whole shebang.

This bullpen is good, but when Kimbrel-Venters-O’Flaherty were at their best, I’d put that over this years. Also the early 2000’s with Smoltz and Remlinger

@Holdsclaw Driver, Manfred has been on the record as stating that they'd use win percentage if necessary if a team can't get all 60 in. Right now, the Cards' 59th and 60th games are in the league's back pocket. They had a double-header with the Tigers that never happened due to COVID. I'd guess if there's a chance that those games decide whether or not St. Louis makes the playoffs, they'd play it. Otherwise, if the Cardinals are up by more than a game or out by more than a game, I'd imagine they just shelve it and move to the postseason.

It feels like this year the Reds are the team that no one wants to play.

I'd want no part of them in that 3 game series, especially.

I'll respectfully disagree. Some pieces of those were better, but the Braves, legitimately have enough that they could have 5th-9th inning guys (O'Day, Minter, Martin, Greene, Melancon). Not to mention, one day, hopefully, Smith is gonna play up to the value he's being paid & not give up so many dongs.

I don't expect the Reds to hit as poorly as they have. They have a team BABIP of .244, which is insanely low (the Rangers are the 2nd lowest... at .265; league BABIP is .292). Suarez has a BABIP over 100 points below his career average, Votto's got a .217 BABIP (his career average is .345; not that I think pre-2018 Votto is coming back, but I don't expect his average to remain this low). They're near the top in K% as a team, but they're in the middle of the pack in swinging strike percentage and contact rate.
