I think it became "cool"/made your beer look better because some of the higher profile hip breweries went to it. It also gives your can more label space to work with.

animal kingdom is available on prime. miracle workers is available on Max, the first season actually makes sense, no clue what they're doing now.

people throw darts for fun
people even duckpin and candlepin bowl for fun

and if it involves drinking they're all somehow more fun.
