The first four are on our Boston Mount Rushmore along with David Ortiz and a few more

Yaz was my boyhood hero and you only have one of those. But David Ortiz should absolutely be on the list instead, the greatest post season performer of my lifetime and yes that includes Reggie Jackson.

We all know of his heroics in '04 and '07 but in '11 he hit .688 (1.18 SLG) in the World Series and had a grand slam taken back by an over the wall catch by the outfielder.
Red Sox didn't play in the World Series in 2011, Cardinals beat the Rangers that year.
Ortiz was named in the steroid scandal but everyone seems to forget that, they idolize him and pound on others.

If that’s all he ever did he’d be better than Orr but he did much much more.

That's just a smidge crazy. I like Ortiz and the Twins releasing him is one of the worst moves in baseball history but I am thinking you don't know much about Bobby Orr. If you ask anyone who's ever been around the sport, coaches, players, announcers, I would wager 99% of them would list Bobby Orr as one of the three greatest players to ever play. I believe if you do the same with people that have been around baseball Ortiz would struggle to be mentioned in the top 50 players of all time. Great player no question about it and one of the best post season players of all time, hit like .455 in the World Series but no way he's better in his sport than Orr was in his, just no way.

Bobby Orr.
Wish his knees didn't give out on him.
Great community guy to.

I know plenty about Orr. The question is not who was better at their sport. The question is who is more revered. Ortiz leading the Red Sox back against the Yankees after being down 3-0 AND then winning the WS after an 86 year drought thereby releasing the torture of generations of Red Sox fans dwarfs any accomplishments Orr did for the city.

But Ortiz did more than that... MUCH more. He was universally recognized as THE clutch performer in Boston sports history AND he was a leader.

Remember this...

Yeah my bad on the year. Still doesn't change the fact that he was a monster in the post season and again the question is who is most revered in Boston. And with so many players caught cheating from that era nobody gives a damned about the steroids, certainly not in Boston with regard to Ortiz.

You did say this right?

"If that’s all he ever did he’d be better than Orr but he did much much more"

Ortiz is probably the most clutch player I've ever seen, but with that said, I don't understand why he gets a pass on the PEDs when so many others are persona non grata. He pretty well admitted to taking them, but he gets a pass while a better player in A-Rod gets crucified. Also, Ortiz is the biggest crybaby bitch in sports history.

"I' gonna throw at A-Rod because he took PEDs, but Big Papi is my boy"

-Ryan Dempster

Personally, PEDs don't bother me. I consider Bonds to be the legit HR king, and I say that as a lifelong, diehard Braves fan. I just don't like how some players get a free pass while others are shunned.

This is just a story, I wasn't there but it was told to me by a member of Busch Stadium staff.
Red Sox came to St. Louis to play the Cardinals in interleague in 2005 after walloping us in the 2004 world series.

When the Red Sox went to enter the stadium a lady asked for their credentials. That was her job.
Ortiz stuck his world series champions ring in her face and said Here's my credentials.

I've hated the motherfucker ever since I heard that story.

Mitchell report came out in 07.

please explain the link to supposed steroid use and Ortiz’s performance in the 13 WS which some say was the BEST performance of any player in the history of WS play. The only other one that’s close was Bonds (who lost).

If Ortiz makes the HOF before Clemens and Bonds, it'll be a joke.

Bwhahaha.

If it’s true its pretty obvious that it was a joke. Toughen up buttercup.

You sure express a lot of “hate” for people you’ve never met. You should see someone about that. You’ll be happier in whatever time you have left

Ortiz pretty well admitted he took PEDs. That happened. My first line was talking about how he's the most clutch player I've ever seen. My last line was talking about how PEDs don't bother me or really change how I view a player.

I was watching a game once and it was either a 3-0 or a 3-1 count and a pitch down the middle was called a strike, but Papi didn't like that a strike was called a strike on him because he's Big Papi. He went on to hit a single in that AB, but got tossed because he was still bitching about a strike being called a strike on him.

bottom of the 8th in the playoffs...

Did I mention they went on to win the WS that year led by an epic performance by Ortiz?

Clutch doesn’t even begin to describe this guy.

Why are you telling me this? I'm actually defending Ortiz as a player.

Yeah, abusing a poor female stadium worker who has no idea who you are is pretty fucking funny...

I'm happy enough, you probably should worry about your own problems.
