Can we stop pretending that James Franklin is anything but an average coach now?

They played 7 times total and franklin is 3-4 against harbaugh. Changing that to 5 years is the definition of cherry picking. It’s not shocking you don’t get that.
Not cherry picking, cope.
Rutgers and Maryland combine have beaten PSU 5 times in their history. Thats 1 less win then PSU has this year. Again this isn’t 40 years in the past. That isn’t a rivalry. Again not shocking you don’t know this.
Bro no one fucking said it was a rivalry. It's the fact that's it's so LOPSIDED that when they actually fucking win it's fucking cancerous as all hell. Are you fucking DENSE mate?

You continue to prove you are a know nothing Pennsylvania jackass. You exemplify what dumb is.
Bitch you can't fucking read smh. Every convo I have with you on this you continue to make yourself look like a clown.

What Campbell has done is admirable, except with what I said, is that Campbell wouldn't change much. What are the biggest complaints against Franklin?

We can't get over the Ohio State Hump? Campbell can't get over the Oklahoma hump, being 2-4 against them and 0 conference championships to show for it.

Can't beat rivals? Campbell is 3-8 against rivals, failing to even beat the Hawkeyes just one time.

Can't win in the big games? Campbell is 10-14 against ranked opponents, 1-4 against Top 10 opponents since 2017.

Not finishing as high as the fandom wants? Campbell has only finished ranked once, being at #9, people still wanted Franklin to be fired back at 2019 for finishing at #9.

This isn't a diss at Campbell, dude is great, but the reasons that people want Franklin to be gone for don't seem to be resolved Campbell, so far you can say he develops better in terms of recruiting to results, but even that is somewhat raises an eye as ISU has only had three NFL draft picks in the Campbell era, which is unironically a fraction of the amount Penn State can produce in a year.

Bottom line, Campbell is great for Iowa State, a good coach overall, but is it really in Penn State's best interests to do coach hopping and hope results change sooner vs later? I think that's the mess Texas & Florida has got themselves into over the pass decade.

I think I'm just a fan of a program in which I recognize Penn State would be the team to finish fourth place behind the podium in most categories, even on a historical basis, which is why I've always been less harsh on Franklin even after the late season disasters of 2017-2019 and the beginnings of the 2020 season. I don't expect the team to be like the 94' or 86', or heck even 73', I just expect them to preform the best they're capable of. Sometimes Franklin misses and sometimes he hits gold. That's been the story of Penn State Football for 30 years about now, and the story of Football in general imo.

Now that I'm done with my two cents, I'm sure others would disagree & that's fine, but like I intend, if you want to replace Franklin with a coach that can get to the next level, get a coach that has proven that.
I actually agree with some of your statements, but for the love of God Franklin is a horrible game day coach. He continually gets top 15 classes in to PSU (minimum top 3 in the B1G) and continually loses or plays close to teams he should destroy.

Franklin is living off 2016. The luck against both Minnesota and OSU turned a looking like dreadful season around.
There was zero reason PSU should have lost 1 regular season game in 2017. And now here we are, looking at another mediocre season when most of the teams they play PSU had WAY more talent then.

I agree PSU shouldn’t fire Franklin unless they have a clear better upgrade. But pretending Matt Campbell isn’t as good of a coach as Franklin is complete bullshit.

Campbell > Franklin
I feel as if this is only sporadic though, despite yesterday's loss, Franklin has had the upper hand against Harbaugh in recent memory and assuming Penn State can somehow beat Michigan State during Thanksgiving weekend then the same applies to MSU. There's years in which Franklin coaches a Top 10 team and they finish as a Top 10 team and there's years when he doesn't. Consistent? No. But not much you can do in terms of improvement with who's out to hire.

? MSU was a disaster but the game against OSU was pretty great and they won fair & square.

Sure, but to me, finishing with any bowl game and coming away with the trash talk/bragging rights against Wisconsin, SEC, Maryland, and hopefully Rutgers/Michigan State is enough for me. Some Penn State fans might call my head but I see our four losses against to three Top 6 teams and one disaster. There's so much worse that could've happened lol.

Like I said Campbell is great, but for Iowa State. If he replaces Franklin I would love to be wrong (win-win for me anyway) but as you agreed on, it needs to be a better upgrade, and I don't think Campbell proved that in his time with Iowa State.

You switched it from 7 to 5 years because it gives Franklin an edge. It’s the very definition of cherry picking.

You won’t call Maryland or Rutgers a rival but care what their fans have bragging rights over? Are you retarded?

It is truly amazing you made it this far in life considering how outrageously stupid you show yourself to be time and time again.

Nope. Go back to class and learn what fallacies are.

Why wouldn't I care? Ralphie you fucking know nothing about our culture, to lose to on of them means an entire year of your spastic little cousin talking shit when they shouldn't and it gets fucking annoying. To put it in perspective, Kansas is not Texas's rival, but it's still a must-win game for every Longhorn fan.
God you're so stupid.

You can't read and reading is one of the most basic functions humans have to have. Yikes.

A fallacy in this case is literally a distraction you are trying to create because you got it wrong. You cherry picked a time to make Franklin look better. It’s not my fault you are wrong nor can you admit it.

We are, you know nothing about me. To say I know nothing of PSU culture (because you don’t like what you are hearing) is the epitome of what you are, a clueless dumbass. This is not the 40 years ago, Ohio State, Michigan and hell even Pitt mean more to most Penn State fans then fucking Rutgers or Maryland. Trying to say Maryland and Rutgers aren’t a rivalry but you care what their fans think is the epitome of stupid. But that’s what you are.

You have exemplified just how much of a dumbass you are. I am actually impressed you have made it this far in life.

No amount of coping will make you any less dumb.

You know nothing Ralph. You think establishing dominance over inferior teams equates to them being our rival since it's treated as a must-win game. That's PSU Culture. No one calls for heads about an Ohio State loss, they call for heads about an Illinois loss.
This is not the 40 years ago, Ohio State, Michigan and hell even Pitt mean more to most Penn State fans then fucking Rutgers or Maryland.
And I would agree and would never disagree. Fuck-ing-READ.

Ralphie my logic applies to your Mountaineer ass as well. I live in SEPA mainly, which means I get the full brute force of combination between Maryland and Rutgers fans, they're massive dickheads who talk shit after a single victory among nine losses. Sorry WVU doesn't have a good reputation to maintain when paired up with inferior opponents on the regular, losing is just common I guess.
You have exemplified just how much of a dumbass you are. I am actually impressed you have made it this far in life.
Ralphie between you and I you either live with your parents still or lived with them for a damn good time. Don't talk to me about life lol.

You fucking cherry picked. You can try and distract from that but it’s clear to see you are cherry picking here.

Who’s talking about calling for heads? I laughed at your insistence that Maryland isn’t a “rival” but yet you care what their fans think. You are a fucking moron.

It’s cute you feel the need to bring up WVU. It just proves how wrong you are. But WVU has lost twice to Maryland in the last 18 years. The same amount of losses PSU has to them in 8 years, maybe slow down with losing to the inferior opponent BS.

Sure, Maryland fans are annoying but they aren’t as bad as Ohio state, Michigan or PItt fans. Rutgers is humorous one. You know you are lying when you say Rutgers fans are annoying.

I live in Central Pa with my wife and kids. It’s funny you throwing out the “don’t know” line when you have been wrong nearly the whole way. I am truly amazed you’ve made it this far in life considering how much of a fucking jackass you are.

Penn State fans? And you laughed at something you couldn't comprehend. Again.

Yeah no you're inferior. Nice try bro.

Sorry you don’t like facts.

The question was between you and I dummie. And you are talking about me not comprehending something?

You don’t get to use the inferior tag when the reason for it is the same as what you currently are experiencing. But it’s not shocking you don’t get that.

Neat, I live in central PA, I know more buckeye fans then Maryland fans. Both are annoying, ask most PSU fans now and theyll say buckeye fans. But you won’t admit that because you are dumb.

Ive doubted your football knowledge and was impressed that you made it this far in life given your complete dumbassery time after time. But after all you are a PSU fan so nothing is a surprise.

You are a special kind of retarded. You can leave this board at anytime If you don’t like me being here, bitch.

Despite some reported flirtation with the USC and LSU openings, James Franklin made his intentions clear today: he is staying at Penn State. The board of trustees compensation committee approved Franklin’s extension, which will keep the 49-year-old Pennsylvania native in State College until 2031.

James Franklin said this about his extension.

“Penn State’s future is bright, and I’m honored to continue to serve as your head football coach. Nine weeks ago, the administration approached me about making a long-term investment in our football program. This prompted numerous conversations outlining the resources needed to be competitive at a level that matches the expectations and history of Penn State. What’s most evident from those conversations is the importance of our student-athletes’ success both on and off the field.”
“With the support of President Barron, Sandy Barbour and the Board of Trustees we’ve been able to create a roadmap of the resources needed to address academic support, community outreach, Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), facility improvements, student-athlete housing, technology upgrades, recruiting, training table and more. This renewed commitment to our student-athletes, community and fans reinforces all the reasons I’ve been proud to serve as your head football coach for the last eight years and why my commitment to Penn State remains steadfast. Throughout this process I’ve kept our leadership council, recruits and staff updated on those conversations and I’m excited we’ve reached an agreement we can finally share with you.”
It has been a bizarre season for the Nittany Lions the last few weeks. After starting 5-0 and reaching the No. 4 ranking in the country, Penn State and Franklin went into a major slump, losing four of their next six to fall to a 7-4 record heading into the regular season finale at Michigan State.

That downswing certainly complicated matters — not only in Happy Valley, but potentially at LSU and USC too — but in the end, the Penn State administration clearly still has belief in Franklin to get it done at Penn State. Prior to the 2020 season, Franklin had the Nittany Lions on the doorstep to the college football playoff, as evidenced by three 11-win seasons during that time. Now, with a big new contract in hand, it will be his job to get Penn State back to that spot.

Within college football, things aren’t always perfect. I even wrote just last week that for the first time, I have begun to question if Franklin can get it done in Happy Valley. But today should be a day that is celebrated, on two accounts. One, that Franklin — despite the reported flirtations elsewhere — is committed to this university. And secondly, that this university is committed to getting this program to where it deserves to be.

That’s a long extension for not being that great especially top opponents. 7.5 million base salary.

The buyout isn’t bad though if Penn State wants to get out of contract.
Franklin's buyout will start at $12 million prior to April 1, 2022. It will reduce to $8 million through Dec. 31, 2022, $6 million in 2023, $2 million in 2024 and 2025, and $1 million from calendar year 2026 to 2030.

I would guess it’s stability for recruiting being the main objective in this beyond obviously him not taking another job. The fact that the buyout reduces in 1/2 in 2 years makes it actually a decent contract for both sides if one or both wish to part ways in a few years.
