Lincoln Riley to USC

Lincoln got worse every year he was at OU.

First year: barely lose in the playoffs
Second year:got beat pretty bad
Third year: got embarrassed
Four year: won big 12 but no playoff
Fifth year: no big 12 no playoff

I refer to it as the “nod at your boyfriends for approval” argument.

The original statement was to the effect that the path to the playoffs for the new coach is easier at USC, which IS the traditional power in the PAC rather than Oklahoma headed into the SEC where coach would have to deal with THEIR perennial powers, of which Oklahoma hasn't really been successful in competing lately.

Yeah, it's definitely an easier path at USC right now because the PAC is down. Not sure how that's debatable.

The bargaining stage of grief. Good you are moving forward. When I went through a similar experience last summer when someone made a business decision that was the best. I was convinced it was only a matter of time before the Pac came calling but alas that wasn't meant to happen.

My advice, when the depression stage hits don't dwell on it too bad and just accept that you may be the next Nebraska. Maybe not but it's not a situation you can control so just accept that it happens and move on.

Sorry you're not taking the breakup very well. I get it. OU dumped you but Im sure you can find pleasure in playing Byu and Ucf.

How is that Bargaining, and not Denial?

sometimes. like i said we still dont know what the SEC is going to do with divisions or pods or anything like that. as it is the argument made by a lot of SEC homers is having to play Alabama and Georgia and Florida and LSU and Auburn Texas A&M and in reality no one plays this schedule. and if they did their name is Arkansas or Miss st. so maybe its harder for them but that doesnt make it harder for everyone. tho Alabama will play those others this year by virtue of the SEC championship otherwise they would miss UGA. again tho this year Florida LSU and Auburn werent exactly setting the world on fire. A&M under preformed from expectations tho that is their norm.

2 things:

1. The post quoted is just another version of the "everybody knows" defense. Doesn't fly.

2. While the numbers don't quite add up to what Oly wants them to, it does show a couple similarities between the conferences. That is that both conferences are very top heavy and need their "flagship" program (USC for the PAC, Bama for the SEC) to be good to be at their best as a conference. Of the PAC's 5 teams to complete an unbeaten conference schedule...3 of those were accomplished by USC and of the 12 times it was done in the SEC, 5 were Alabama.

Right now, the SEC is the tougher conference and I don't think that's particularly debatable. But if USC can get back to standard and Oregon doesn't drop off, we could see the gap start to close a good bit.
3 with a * on it for USC considering covid year of 5 games and some vacated games in the other 2.

the other 3 conferences
Kansas State 8-0 Oklahoma 8-0, Oklahoma 8-0, Oklahoma 8-0, Texas 8-0, Texas 8-0, Oklahoma 9-0 7 times oklahoma 4 of them

Florida State 8-0 Florida State 8-0, Virginia tech8-0, Florida State 8-0, Florida State 8-0, Clemson 8-0, North Carolina 8-0, Clemson 8-0, Clemson 8-0, Notre Dame 9-0 10 times Florida State 4 times

Ohio State 8-0, Iowa 8-0. Ohio State 8-0, Ohio State 8-0, michigan State 8-0, Ohio State 8-0, Ohio State 8-0, Iowa 8-0, Wisconsin 9-0, Ohio State 9-0, Ohio State 5-0 11 times Ohio state 7 times

and again my argument is the pac is not an easier path because it is harder to get through the Pac undefeated because of the balance of the conference. the rest of the conference is closer to the top than in the SEC.

most years you look at preseason projections and its Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama, Clemson but picking the Pac it goes through a wider range of Oregon, Washington, Stanford, USC, Utah, Arizona State.

You guys are forgetting that in the last 10 years Alabama, LSU, Auburn and most likely Georgia this year will have won national championships and Florida plus Tenn aren't that far removed. Other than USC in the early 2000 there isn't a PAC team that doesn't have at least two losses if not three playing an SEC schedule. You can take the best PAC teams over the last 20 years, throw them in the SEC and you might have one SEC championship but I doubt it and that's throwing the absolute best you have at it.

as it is the argument made by a lot of SEC homers is having to play Alabama and Georgia and Florida and LSU and Auburn Texas A&M
Substitute Penn State for Florida and we played that schedule this year with PSU, TAMU, and LSU being true road games. Same for next year too, just switching home/away status. You can even swap Ole Miss for Auburn to complete that anecdote.

You’re presenting your conjecture as a fact, and then gathering conclusions from that fact. No one can be this stupid.

So what you are saying is you didnt play that. got it

the speculation of how teams would do in other conferences is out of pocket because its an opinion not fact. just because you like to believe it doesnt mean thats how it would go. just like your Auburn beat Oregon and Washington when they won the Pac means they actually would have won the Pac. in reality Auburn likely loses a few games Playing a Pac schedule as well and would not have won the conference.

I am saying that we played one harder. Of all the teams you named, only one of them is not our yearly opponents and it is replaced with a generally better team like PSU, Clemson, Oregon and Washington subbing for Florida. We play a harder schedule than you claim nobody in the SEC plays.

No it's fact we won the PAC two years in a row and you should send us those trophies.

false 1 game doesnt mean you won the conference.

claiming an out of conference opponent in order to make your in conference argument?
