I was just thinking if I was Bryce Young or CJ Stroud why wouldn’t I threaten to leave and act like I’m entering the portal so all local business would throw NIL money at me to stay?

What stops a kid from using this as leverage?

Nothing

Hey @ELTEXAN

Whats your feelings on this if (or when) this happens? You’re a proponent of the kids getting paid. What say you on this?

I brought this up in another thread, but organizations should be structuring the NIL deals to disincentivize players leaving for another school.

What do I think about someone *negotiating their compensation*? I’ve been extremely clear on that. Everyone in any industry deserves to do that. I’ve written that line on these forums a couple of dozen times.
The reason why we’re in the Wild West right now when it comes to this is because the Schools under the ncaa have colluded to keep principals from negotiating for their compensation for decades, and now they’re getting caught with their pants down.
Now, we have to scramble to create a system that lets principals get paid and also ensures a viable league. This should have happened naturally over the last few decades, but the ncaa didn’t let it happen purposefully and greedily.
i have also said the above a few dozen times on here.

Neat, so you have no problem with a prospect doing what the OP has stated and you dont think there should be a cap on this NIL?

if you want the player to stay.. make them happy

I didn’t say that at all. There needs to be a viable league. Wild West cannot be the rule. The sport league will not be sustainable.
what I said explicitly is that we need to have a system where the principals have a chance to negotiate for their compensation within a viable league. I’m literally quoting myself for the umpteenth dozenth time now.
again, this should have happened over the last several decades naturally, like it has in *every single other for profit sport,* but the schools colluding under the NCAA and abetted by dunces in the government and in the stands didn’t let that happen. Now, the sport is caught with its pants down in this situation.

My issue is stuff like Texas giving linemen 50K each and then some of them taking the money and then leaving.

if you are an amateur then fine no one should be able to tell you where you can play. However once you take money then you should honor your commitment or the entity you took money from should be able to get it back.

They‘ve created a monster that no one is going to be able to control.

…because the schools colluding under the NCAA for decades to keep the principals from compensation (negotiated) led us to this circumstance.
But it’ll get settled soon enough. It should have emerged naturally, but the greedy school under the NCAA didn’t let that happen

There is gonna have to be written contracts on this stuff eventually
Yes. Like in every other for profit league.
I feel like I’ve been saying this exact same thing on these forums and the previous forums for decades and am now just repeating myself verbatim. And that’s because I have and I am.

Like do you put a limit on how many endorsements a kid can have from a local business in 1 calendar year? Do you put a cap on earnings in a calendar year?

It's called a contract.

If the entity is too dumb to write protections into it, they deserve to get ripped off.

This was the problem with doing away with the sitting out rule. NIL is fine but nothing keeping players from so easily being able to leave to chase it is a mistake. They had it right the first time with letting only grad transfers play right away.

You can transfer. You can collect NIL. But you can't participate in it while ineligible.
