They charged me a quarter hour for every 3 minute phone call 35 years ago. That was $25.

Good Lord I'd hate to think what it costs now.

If my client sucks bad enough, I usually withdraw. But that's only in extreme situations because I've got bills to pay. But I don't ever purposefully mail it in.

However long it takes to read it and respond. Some are billed at 5 minutes, some are billed at an hour. Depends on the contents and the complexity. If it's just a scheduling email, I usually don't bill for that.

I bill in 5 minutes increments.

I can only imagine some of the stories you have over the years. Those situations turn otherwise sane people crazy.
