The roles will be reversed when you win 8 straight games. Harbaugh had a nice 60 minutes but overall I don’t think anyone is worried. As for my previous post just having some fun….

That UofM super-homer thinks JH's record vs. Ohio State is 1-1. In his homeristic world all of JH's losses to the Buckeyes before Day got the job no longer count.

The question is whether Day can maintain the Tressel/Meyer level of Ohio St football?

Yep, Harbaugh is 1-5 against tOSU.
4 of those 5 losses were against an 'elite' Urban Meyer.
Sure those losses to Meyer count, but they in no way predict future outcomes of the rivalry going forward.

That's like saying USC was gonna be great forever because Pete Carroll. Or Florida was gonna be great forever because of Urban Meyer.

And that's a legit question. Obviously I hope so. But so far he's off to a pretty good start. 34-4, multiple division titles, conference crowns and I'm pretty sure all of his recruiting classes have been top 5. But don't quote me on that. Not 100% sure and don't feel like looking that info up right now.

But going forward I'd rather have Day than Harbaugh. With JH it's not just his record vs. his hated rival. His record vs. all ranked teams and his bowl record isn't good.

Helfrich went 24-4 and played for the NC in his first two years after Chip left. He followed that with a (9-4) and a (4-8) as the program became his.

Not saying tOSU is gonna crash and burn to Oregon levels, but to maintain elite status 3 coaches in a row at tOSU has got to have extremely low odds.

Has that ever been done by anyone?

1- You mentioned MF's first two years. Day's third season he won the division & conference, albeit in a shortened season. Four losses in three seasons. Helfrich had 4 losses his third alone season at Oregon. And let's be realistic. Oregon isn't Ohio State when it comes to football.

2- Technically that's incorrect. Tressel, Fickell, Meyer, Day. Fickell wasn't successful his lone year in Columbus.

And I don't want anyone to misunderstand what I'm saying. In no way am I saying that Day will continue the success of those other coaches. I'm just hoping he does.

My point is that even Helfrich maintained what he inherited for a couple years.
Not much difference between 2 and 3 seasons. So it possibly takes 3 seasons for Day to show drop off compared to the 2 for Helfrich? OK.
Ohio St was closer to going (9-3) in this regular season than they were going (12-0).
They beat a (3-9) Nebraska by just 9 points. They led Nebraska by just 6 points with 1:29 remaining in the 4th Q.
Oregon and Michigan dominated them. Oregon led 21-7 at one point.

Fickell was a one season interim HC, so I don't count him in the Tressel/Meyer run.

Again.... Has any FBS program had 3 elite coaches in a row?

How did I get defensive? I mentioned facts. You on the other hand outright said that Ohio State's last three coaches had the program at an elite level. Should I call you a total bullshitter for saying that? Of course not. But what you said was incorrect.

This was one of the youngest Ohio State teams in years with one of their worst defenses I've ever seen. I'm not too concerned about the future. Ryan Day will be just fine. But I gotta good laugh that you went outta your way to mention that Nebraska game. How many single digit losses did your team have this season since you went outta your way to mention your team?

Do you think Ohio State was the same team to end the season that started the season? Buckeyes had a better season than the Ducks. And for the first time in a very long time UofM were the better, more experienced and hungrier team. In both cases the better team won.

Again...Ohio State didn't have three elite coaches in row. You're choosing not to count Fickell as an Ohio State coach because of the circumstances that allowed him to get that position in the first place.

Tressel lost 2 games in 2003 after going undefeated in 2002. Including getting beat pretty soundly by Michigan. Then had a bad 8-4 year in 2004. I’m not freaking out about Day until it becomes a clear trend.
 
I think day “gets it” after his DC hire and cutting our deadweight OL coach who’s really struggled in recruiting of late. He definitely hasent lame ducked the start of this offseason

No I didn't. I said Ohio St's last 2 coaches had them at elite level. Tressel and Meyer.

Fickell was an "INTERIM" HC. He was only given a 1 year contract.
Was Fickell fired? No, he was passed up because he was simply INTERIM and they got Meyer.

You are certainly getting defensive that I even suggest that Day may not maintain the level we expect from Ohio St.

Tressel took a huge step back in year 4 (8-4) after having a struggle in year 3 (11-2 “struggle” with a convincing losss to Michigan)
 
Oklahoma beat (3-9) Nebraska 23-16 (7 pts) this season.
They lost to both Baylor and Okie Jr.

Ohio St beat (3-9) Nebraska 26-17 (9 pts) this season. 3 of those pts came with 1:29 remaining in the 4th Q.
They lost in dominant fashion to both Oregon and Michigan.
They barely beat (10-4) Utah 48-45 (3 pts) in the Rose Bowl.
Utah had lost to BYU, San Diego St, and Oregon St.

Neither Ohio St or Oklahoma won their conferences. It's fair to say they both took a step back this season.
But get your panties in a wad.
