I don't blame him for wanting to go to the NFL -- it is the pinnacle of coaching and the sport of football. There are only 32 HC jobs in the NFL and only a few open each year, so yes, most would take any job that opens.
And i think you are missing the point -- IF HARBAUGH SAID NOTHING to Mitch Albom or anyone else in the press, no one would know he was interested in NFL coaching positions. He was open about it, as you literally stated, he mentioned something to Mitch Albom, he was honest with recruits when they asked him if he was giving the NFL a serious look, he was honest to the school.
What i've stated multiple times is --overwhelming majority of coaches would say absolutely nothing. Nick Saban held a team meeting and told MSU he wasn't going anywhere right before their bowl game -- then he left in the middle of the night to take the LSU job. Stan Drayton told Mike Weber he was going nowhere, then the day after he signed, he took a job in Chicago and left. Which is why I said I commend him for being open and honest about it. I still want him gone, but it was nice to see a coach think about the kids for once.
