Jim Harbaugh gone to NFL

So you think Harbaugh should have lied to recruits and their parents about it? I commend him for being open and honest, as he had to know it was going to upset many fans (like myself, i think UM should be looking for replacements as we speak).

Should he have been like the RB coach at OSU who recruited Mike Weber, who left the day after he signed his letter of intent, to go the Bears? Or like Saban who told MSU players right before their bowl game he wasn't going anywhere and then left in the middle of the night to take the LSU job?

Maybe it looked odd because most coaches would lie about the situation? Personally, I still hate it and think UM should look elsewhere for a coach after the 2022 season, but I'm guessing the players and recruits respect him for being open about the situation,.

Harbaugh is a different case than anyone else because everyone who pays the least amount of attention (including recruits) know he will be gone as soon as an opportunity presents itself. Some of them are probably disappointed.

So he should have lied to recruits? I'm confused how you think he should have handled it?

You think he should have been like OSU's Stan Drayton and get the kids to sign and leave the next day? I think people don't know how to take the way Harbaugh handled it because he actually told recruits, their families and the school the truth, which doesn't happen too often in CFB.

Doesn't change that I hope UM uses this year to look for coaches who are available to replace him, but it is refreshing to see a coach be honest.

I don't care what he told recruits. Jim Knowles did the same thing as he was considering leaving Oklahoma State to come be Ohio State's DC. Harbaugh isn't a hero here. If Knowles (or Harbaugh) didn't say anything to anyone before they took another job, I wouldn't care.

I do think that once the decision is made there is a classy and classless way to leave and we see far too many coaches pick the classless way out.

Coaches come and they go. Only stupid recruits don't know that.

I think you are missing the point here. If he said nothing, recruits knew he wanted to leave. If he lied to them and said he had no intention of leaving, they *still* knew he wanted to leave.

So, he told them he wanted to leave.

"Thanks, coach. Everyone knew that."

Should other coaches do the same thing? Maybe, or maybe they shouldn't make it known to the free world that they want to leave.

Harbaugh would have taken any job in the NFL offered to him. The only reason he isn't a candidate for Miami is because their owner is a Michigan grad and won't screw his alma mater. He told Mitch Albom he thought he had the Vikings job and really didn't know they wanted to interview him. He thought it was a formality.

If you weren't aware of this before the playoffs even began, you must be living on another planet.

I think it is shitty he went on the interviews -- I just commend him for actually being honest with the recruits and their families.

He was open about it, as you literally stated, he mentioned something to Mitch Albom, he was honest with recruits when they asked him if he was giving the NFL a serious look, he was honest to the school.

Yes, because he is excelling as a 7th round pick who has never had a single carry in the NFL.

Simple fact is -- It was a complete douche bag move lying to a teenager, then bouncing out the next day after he signs.

That is why I'm glad they have the portal now, even though UM's archaic ass won't use it, because kids can do what is best for them, just like the coaches have been doing what is best for them for years.

He wouldn't have even got that chance if he went to Michigan. Only RB Michigan currently has in the NFL was relegated to a backup.
