Jim Harbaugh gone to NFL

I don't blame Harbaugh for wanting to go to the NFL. It is the pinnacle of coaching and the sport. I blame him for how it was handled.

I'd consider it a FWB situation if he had been interviewed for another college job and then came back when he didn't get it. How can people fault anyone for wanting to go the NFL? There isn't a bigger accomplishment as a coach than winning a super bowl. Only 32 people in the US are NFL HC's at any point in time, so I understand the draw. Hell, it is the end goal for every single player in college too.

Harbaugh handled it terribly though and if the NFL is what he truly wants, he shouldn't be the HC at UM.
I don’t blame Harbaugh for looking at NFL jobs but he waited so late in the year and it hurt recruiting and had he left he would have hurt the hiring process. Michigan gave Harbaugh a hall pass to go stick his dick in whatever he wanted and to come back without any repercussions. In fact, there are talks he may get a raise, so they are rewarding him. So he’s going to do this every year because Michigan told him that he can do this whenever he wants and they are just going to simp for him hoping he will come back.

Harbaugh reportedly has pissed off multiple assistants.

These are not merely "all major programs lose assistants" situations. They are dealing with a man child who only returned to Michigan because he got spurned by the NFL (though some Michigan fans want to pretend it was the other way around)

i do not give 2 shits who spurned who.

I don’t have to sell or burn my Viking gear so all is good.

Handled it terrible how? You wish he did it all in secret?

I think a marriage and a job are entirely different. I love my job. I occasionally apply for one that I think is interesting. I think most people have and do the same thing. It doesn’t mean they dislike their current job.

You can only interview for coaching jobs at certain periods of time in the NFL. So he didn't "wait so late" -- it is why it was so late they announced it.

And I'm not sure how it hurt recruiting? We actually picked up two big time recruits late -- in Keon Sabb from Clemson and Derrick Moore from Oklahoma -- they were two of the highest ranked recruits in the class. So recruiting wasn't hurt at all, which actually shocked me. Now losing coordinators is what hurts us and I don't blame McDonald or Gattis for leaving. I'd have done the same thing. Why commit to a coach who won't commit to you?

And I can't imagine any college saying -- no, you can't interview at the highest level in the coaching profession. If the NFL wants you, they are going to bring you in. Now many coaches have no interest at all at coaching in the NFL, as it is light years more difficult than college, while some prefer the NFL as you don't have to do as much travelling around the country recruiting. So I don't blame UM for letting him interview, but Harbaugh has lost all trust from the fan base -- personally i think it is only a matter of time before he leaves for the NFL, so why would a player or coach want to commit to him or the program?

You are either in or you are out. If the NFL is where he wants to be -- then go. Only the biggest UM homers believe him now when he says he is a "Wolverine for Life". GTFOH -- you are a Wolverine until one of the 32 teams comes calling again and he will jump ship.

If CFB isn't where he wants to be -- he needs to go immediately.

Meh. I don’t think it matters at all.
that's what you say now.. but if you were the head guy at a company, and only had to report to the brass, and they just resigned you (for less). And you tell them your interested in taking another job at a global level company. And not only are you interviewing but heavily interested..so much so that the company is now making plans to name a successor once you leave.

Only for you to bomb your interview or bitch about how much power you get and tuck tail..

So as a homer, sure it doesn't look bad to you, but if you don't think that other schools won't be hitting this talking point on the trail, your just being foolish. I bet some of those players listened to Gibbs as he was heading out to Miami and will be also hitting the portal come the spring

ahh yes you picked up two huge commitments from players that were leaning towards other staffs that are also being filled. Yeah no big deal

There's legitimately no reason to make this hard and fast line, especially with someone with huge connections to the program. He can legitimately want both things at the same time and be torn, and it doesn't mean he likes either any less.

Head guys at companies move jobs all the time. Talk to people about moving jobs all the time. You get head hunted all the time. Had this been someone with no connection to the program, they probably get fired. But because Harbaugh has deep connections I don't think is allegiance to Michigan should have been, or is, in question.
