Welcome to the Air Raid era SEC

Leach has an old spread offense and still wrecked shop. It simple. The ball is going to come out fast and that is going to negate the biggest advantage teams like LSU have, bad ass athletes on the DL. They are going to find your slowest defender on the second level and make him defend in space. Why I have said for years the traditional MLB is becoming a dinosaur

I posted something similar in the game thread, but this is the most talented roster that Mike Leach has ever had, I didn't envy LSU for being the first team to have to play them. I think we all expected regression from LSU this season too. Miss State will pull some upsets and probably lose a couple games they shouldn't.
Costello isn’t even remotely close the best QB Leach has had though.

LSU is the first defending champion to lose its debut since Michigan in 1998. :dhd:
Can you really count that, they didnt actually win anything in 97 anyway

Kudos to Leach but what's not being mentioned in any of these threads is that LSU had a record number of players (18) invited to the NFL combine after last season along with the fact that Stingley (CB) didn't play.

That 2008 Texas Tech team was probably the apex of his career. If he can carry that to the SEC that'll be fun to watch.

Usually the defending champion opens with a cupcake or two to work out there kinks so no surprise this year.

The one win for Leach at Miss State is that State always seems to have a decent defense, even in their bad years. State usually struggles on offense. Leach lost at Texas Tech because of weaker defense... he may not have that problem at State. Tennessee should have hired Leach.

@Shanemansj13

Did the Miss State University or the football team do any BLM marches or shit like that?

If not, I have a new favorite team.
No way, not doing that shit up in here...

Funny thing is how this title is right, but at least a decade late. I believe Leach was the OC for Hal Mumme at Kentucky, when the Air Raid actually came to the SEC. I have been amazed at the SEC’s ability to ignore football trends. I get Bama Being late to adopt changes, why would you when you got a massive talent advantage. Like the saying goes “necessity is the mother of invention” and Bama doesn’t need shit. I just don’t understand how Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss State, etc have gone years thinking they are going to beat Bama, Georgia, LSU, etc running through same old shit

This has been my exact thought for years.
Those teams will sure the hell look at it now.
In 5 years, half the teams will run it.\

Auburn brought in the HUNH and how many do you see using that now?

15 years ago Spurrier created the fun and gun.

Honestly all the Big 12 is doing is mainly zone read spread offenses that every high school in America are doing now.

Both Auburn and Ole Miss (under freeze) used spread no huddle offenses to success. Georgia has done pretty well they just can't get all the way but done better than B12 team and LSU just won the national championship.

I think the bigger question is why hasn't the B12 put an emphasis on defense and beefed up their D-lines. I mean if your conference was actually making the playoff every year and winning National Championships we might actually listen to your advice. But since Auburn has won a national championship and played in another since the last time the B12 even played in one...we think we are ok.

Oklahoma has been in the playoff the same amount of times as Alabama. And OU beat Auburn in the Sugar Bowl a couple years ago. Not sure that holds water.

Oklahoma is the only B12 team to do it and they haven't gotten past the first round.

Yes you beat Auburn when our QB broke his arm on the first series, we had no back up and our only running back was at 70%. I was at the game and once our QB went out you could see the wind go out out of the team. Look nice win by OU but that Auburn team was broken.

Malzahn is just an offshoot from Rich Rod and Meyer’s spread to run format. He just sprinkled in a lot single wind ideas to those offenses (obviously simplified description). I don’t think you have watched much BIg 12, if you think zone read is the prevailing offense. I honestly can’t think of a Big 12 offense that is predicated in zone read.
Your d-line comment is absurd. You don’t think every school in the country wants 4-5 star DL? If their were a ton of them in Kansas’s backyard, you can bet they would try to get them. Patterson’s 4-2 that was a major innovation was the result of recruiting issues. Miss State guy is in this camp also. I forgot his name (Joe lee Dunn?? Something like that) but he developed the 3-3-5, because he couldn’t recruit DL from LSU and Bama. Strong went on to steal that South Carolina. Defense is more dependent on talent, than offense. It’s why shitty recruiting schools have typical gone air raid/spread to try and mitigate the recruiting gap

should have said “didn’t want to be there”

Been longer than 15 years for OBC's fun n gun. He started at UF in 1990 IIRC.

This post is dumb because the schools you listed are always hiring crazy coaches to try new stuff. Ole Miss hired Houston Nutt for Wildcat, Hugh Freeze who ran an interesting offense, and David Cutcliffe all coaches to shake up things. Miss State did that with Dan Mullen. Vandy with Jamss Franklin.
