I'm not scalping. I'm buying and holding a deflationary asset forever. There is no fear of loss whatsoever. Zero speculation. Zero risk (or as close to it as you can get).
How is the IRS more/less focused on crypto than any other asset class? It's reported and taxed exactly like any other asset. Buy Bitcoin, never sell it, borrow against it in the future if needed, but never, ever sell it.
Because they specifically ask if you have been engaged with Cryto transactions on the 1040. They don’t ask you specifically if you bought a piece of art or stock. People had a period where the IRS ignored it and now it has their attention.
