GAME Georgia vs Oregon, 9/3/2022, 3:30 PM eastern, ABC

I’m happy that Dan Lanning was able to get a P5 head coaching job, but even he knows he’s in for a long first game.

My prediction is both teams will be playing their backups most of the second half. UGA because they’re up so much, Oregon because the first stringers are too beat up to continue.

UGA does need to take it a little easy on them so Oregon can look good on the resume. Beat em up too bad and they won’t be able to field a competitive team for weeks after the game.

Predicting a 63-0 win for UGA

And yes, this is the official game thread and any other threads discussing this matchup should be merged with this one
could it be a blow out? sure. 63-0? doubt.
UGA lost a lot of good players. they will still be really good but will they be as good as last year? not so sure. that team was on another level.
and with that how many times did they hit 63? 0 times. with teams like UAB and charleston southern on the schedule. they did have 62-0 game with Vandy. Oregon is not Vandy.
teams that were closer to such more likely score of like 38-17. but again that would have been based on last year with a better UGA team and an Oregon team where the coach was mailing it in.

You gonna find out when Oregon gets whipped on both lines and has no answer for the 3 headed monster at TE.

63-0 is conservative. It could easily be more, but I figure the 4th string will see a lot of action and Kirby probably won’t run it up too bad against his protege

TLDR - we are re-loading, not rebuilding with a better O this year, and a small step back on D.

It would appear you did not pay attention to who posted and to whom you are responding. It's a joke, he's not serious.

I'd be interested in your take on what you lost, and what you return and how good you think you will be. It's really a home game for us, so that is a plus. With regard to what we gained or lost, I'll use this post to pull my thoughts together:

Coaching - we lost Lanning, replaced by Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann who will serve as co-defensive coordinators. As much as I liked Lanning, I don't see us missing a beat coaching wise here. We lost our WR coach, and replaced him with someone better. We lost our OL coach and replaced him with someone as good - better run coach, not sure about about Pass Pro. Our new OLB coach, who officially replaces Lanning's spot on the field came from Rutgers and people are really high on him. We added Mike Bobo as an offensive analyst. All in all, we are better at the coaching position - I say that with all due respect to Lanning, who I really liked.

Offense - we will be better, no doubt.
- QB - Stetson comes back for his 6th year, and will have an entire off-season as QB1 for the first time ever. We have two backups in their 3rd and 2nd year, respectfully who I have faith in should we need them. Talented but inexperienced.
- OL - we should be considerably better. Last year we had our LT being played by a G, and he did a great job. This year we have two 5*s manning the tackles, with another 5* as the primary backup. The Center is in his third year and will be all-SEC. We return our top G from season ending injury and have a number of 5* and high 4* to compete for the 2 spots. Our 2 deep OL would start at almost any SEC school.
- TE - best TE room in the country, and it's not close. Bowers, Arik Gilbert, Darnell Washington, with freshman Oscar Delp. After over a decade of poorly using TE, we are TEU right now. We will truly see a lot of 13 and even 14 formation from time to time.
- WR - we don't have a WR1 that is going to go first round, but we have 9 experienced WR, including a number coming back for 4th and 5th years who are really good. There are other teams - Bama, tOSU - who have a better top 3, but I am confident we have the deepest quality WR room in the country. And that is what works for OC Monken.
- RBS - 5* and 4* Milton and McIntosh step up and will be as good if not better than Cook and Zeus White were last year. Daijun Edwards is going to surprise some people in his 3rd year in the program. We have two really good freshman, including Branson Robinson, the 4th best ranked RB last year, top 65 player.
- Because our D was so good, people forget that our O was really good last year. No. 9 - 2021 Team Offense | College Football at Sports-Reference.com. It's going to be better this year.

Defense - we are re-loading, not re-building, but last year was special. This year we will be top 10, maybe top 5. So when I say it's a step back, we were many steps ahead of most everyone last year, taking a step back still puts us near the top.
- DL - one thing you heard a lot in the draft was the fact that the UGA players all rotated a ton. That's why some of our guys didn't have the stats, but 5 got drafted in the first round. We rotated 9-10 players regularly on the DL. Arguably our best D player last year, Jalen Carter, comes back. He's being mocked top 10 1st rounder this coming year. Then we have a dozen guys who played 25% - 35% of the snaps last year. We clearly won't be as good as last year, but our DL will be top 3 in the country by mid-season.
- OLB/Rush end - we return the 2018 no. 1 player in high school who hasn't lived up to that hype, but has been really good. Coming back for his 4th year, Nolan Smith will be all-SEC. We have 2-3 other guys who were 5*, high 4*, some mature, some young. We'll be fine here.
- ILB - this is the one position where we take the biggest step back. We lost 3 ILB to the NFL, one first rounder, 2 second rounders. But, we have the talent to replace them - all top100 guys - but they lack experience. This is where our back loaded schedule helps. Lanning will try to isolate these guys ... it's your best chance.
- CB/S - we had a safety go in the 1st round, and we return 3 really good guys who aren't great but should do the job. These guys will go rounds 4-6 in the draft. We have some really highly rated freshman, but not expecting them to help this year. At CB Kelee Ringo will be a shutdown CB, while we are going to have to rely on some talented buy unproven guys on the other side.
- Our front 7 will be good enough to support a secondary better than last year. Good that you catch them early, plus your HC was their DC, so he will know how to attack them.

Special Teams
- Our PK comes back, and he's really good. Surprisingly, he was challenged in the spring ... so we have some good backups.
- We lost our punter who was drafted in round 4 (even before the SDSU guy), and he was special and could flip a field. We have a 26 year old Aussie - always wanted my own Aussie punter. Should be interesting to see how he works out.

We are favored by 16 at this time. With it being a home game, in essence, that sounds about right.

still at work but from ESPN here is a quickie. they project oregon up to 14th on defense. but i think that is also a over the next couple years deal.

Lanning knows D. He will get you to the be the no. 1 D in the PAC.

Oregon's only chance is that Oregon can push the ball down the field against a green Georgia secondary. I think Oregon has a very deep group at WR but I'm not sure you can count on Bo Nix being able to push the ball down field all game without making some costly mistakes.

Oregon should be good defensively but almost everyone is going to have a hard time with Georgia's offense this year.

and i messed that up
The unit has been on a solid trajectory but enters a transition period with coach Dan Lanning's arrival and the departure of standout end Kayvon Thibodeaux, playmaking safety Verone McKinley III and others. Lanning proved himself as both a tactician and a recruiter at Georgia, and should continue predecessor Mario Cristobal's momentum in attracting top defenders to Eugene. The immediate forecast is a bit murky, but Oregon returns a foundational piece in sophomore linebacker Noah Sewell, who last fall had a team-high 114 tackles, ranked second behind Thibodeaux in sacks (4), and tied for the team lead in forced fumbles (2). Sewell is surrounded by non-senior linebackers whom Oregon needs to emerge, such as junior Mase Funa, redshirt freshman Justin Flowe, sophomores Keith Brown and Treven Ma'ae and others. Sophomore Bradyn Swinson is listed at defensive end but could play outside linebacker for Lanning and coordinator Tosh Lupoi after recording three sacks and making a start in 2021.

There's some experience up front with senior tackle Popo Aumavae, junior end Brandon Dorlus and sophomore tackle Keyon Ware-Hudson, but all three missed time this spring following surgeries, allowing others to get more field time. The development of players such as sophomore tackle Sua'ava Poti, sophomore end Brandon Buckner and junior tackle Sam Taimani, a transfer from Washington, will help the long-term depth. Safeties Bennett Williams (three interceptions in 2021), Jamal Hill (seven starts in 2021) and Steve Stephens IV (eight starts) will lead a somewhat new-look secondary this fall. The cornerback spot has new faces, including Colorado transfer Christian Gonzalez and fellow sophomores Trikweze Bridges (three starts in 2021) and Dontae Manning (18 tackles as a reserve). Oregon should get most of its DB rotation back next fall, and added ESPN 300 recruits Jahlil Florence and Trejon Williams.

Secondary is not green ... Ringo is lockdown in 3rd year, our safeties have 2-4 years starting, S1 is a 5th year senior. We will have one green CB, that's it. Again, it's going to be over the middle with our ILBs ... they are green. UGA has absolutely owned Bo Nix ... get ready for the ride of your life with the Bo Nix experience. Lanning's knowledge of our D has to help you.

Sewell and Flowe are really good. UGA wanted both.

I agree to a point.

Urbs broke that mold, but I can't think of another G5 head coach that had his success in the P5 as well.

As we agree, outside of very few they're all gamble and someone's gotta take that gamble.

Thought you had more new guys outside of Ringo. I've seen it from Nix already. He has some great plays and some head scratchers. I was hoping a change of scenery would help him, especially given all the volatility at Auburn. However, so far, it looks like more of the same. Just have to hope we get good Bo Nix for the Georgia game and more importantly for the Utah game.

Tough titty said the kitty, but the milk’s still good.

West coast football is inferior and it’s gonna be a bloodbath and one of the easiest wins for UGA in program history

Can't wait for Georgia to smash the ugly ducklings.
