I love Nick and he is the King but I don’t think this was a smart thing to do. I’m sure we’ve illegally bought tons of players over the years before NIL and Jimbo as a former Saban assistant at LSU definitely knows how the sausage is made.

Apparently he also went nuclear about Miami hoops and Deion Sanders? And this is all because they were one fucking spot behind A&M in FB recruiting rankings?

That fuckin pipsqueak done lost all of his marbles. :pound:

LOL Saban is upset that inflation is here.. He got Waddle for the bargain price of 80k back in 2018.. Needs to start bleeding that rock of a donor base in Bama

Take your shots at Saban but he's right on this one. There is not other way to look at it than how he said it. Was it legit? We can argue that until the cows come home but for God's sake don't try to argue that all those players suddenly ended up at Texas A&M because they wanted to play for Jimbo or be an Aggie or they love College Station. It's just the perfect example of a school that put a lot of money into something and they got what they were shooting for. Saban just called a spade, a spade. Don't like it? Change the rules. Like it? Let the Wild West Show keep going.

Oh what he said about NIL and the collectives is 100% right. I just don’t like him calling other people out when he 100% has been playing the game himself(just like everyone) for years.

Just Hypocritical to me.

"We didn't buy one player"

Any program that wasn’t paying players under the table before NIL wasn’t trying to win.

I don't think it was as much of a shot at Jimbo as it was at the new way of doing things. He seems to be whining about it.

But sumpin' ain't adding up here. If Bama DIDN'T pony up significant NIL money to get the 2nd ranked recruiting class, then those guys are either some of the most altruistic players, they are willing to chance no NIL money now for NFL money later, or they are the dumbest bunch of recruits.

On the other hand if a coach that has never won anything had said the same thing everyone would be shouting "sour grapes!". Frankly, it's all bullshit. We see posters on here every day making comments about other schools supposedly not being able to pay the going rate for players or comments about other schools who are not willing to accept that making college sports a semi-pro industry is the wave of the future. Saban made an excellent point that if there are LIMITS to what is reasonable. In this case he was referring to money. He could just as well have been talking about academic standards (who cares if anyone can pass a class?) or legal issues (who cares if a player has another rape on his record?). Saban's not lily white by any means but at least he's willing to try to bring a festering problem out into the open. I'll give him credit for that.

But I will say, if you spend 30 million on a recruiting class, you can give em a pass for a year, but anything other than 15-0 in years 2 and 3 is unacceptable

Oh don’t get it twisted. There are AL players with NIL deals. He said “we” didn’t buy any players. Not that players weren’t bought. He’s suggesting the school and boosters were directly involved in buying players up at A&M.

And this is where it will die a quick death. People won’t throw good money after bad. And if all you’re buying is mercenaries then you’re not going to get a team. You’re going to get a locker room full of guys worrying about who’s getting theirs and why they’re not making as much as the guy next to him.

No issue with him saying what he did. What I have an issue with is his lie that Bama is above this. No, NIL evened the playing field. No longer could shitstains like Saban break the rules then cry to the NCAA when others did the same.

His goal is to get a cap where he can then spend his money and bring players in based on the schools name alone. He wants to limit any advantage other schools would have (in this case deeper pockets).

That's where the coach has to play a part. Not one iota different than every professional sport. Maybe this will bring NFL coaches to the NCAA. Money is already there, now they just need someone that can manage a room full of millionaires looking out for #1.

lol he loses one game to kirby out of 5 and now he's washed up? lol
More like he is pissed that Jimbo just beat him with a terrible QB but now has a stable of QB options and some of the best players in the country. This is nothing more than Saban seeing the writing on the wall. If he were a lesser man I would expect some medical condition to crop up in the next month or so that forces him to step away before the house of cards crashes down
