I was listening to an eagles podcast that's currently down on radio row in NOLA. For some reason they had a movie reviewer on (he was a big eagles fan). They asked him for his favorite movies of the year and some other questions. He clearly disliked this movie but said he didn't want to get in trouble with his bosses. I didn't have any idea what this movie was. One of the regular podcasters said it was the worst movie he's ever seen and pointed out he wasn't even being hyperbolic.

As a bonus, he said Nickel Boys was his favorite of the year. I also have no idea what that is.

Yet, because the Academy Awards isn't so much about good movie-making anymore and about some weird woke ideal, it's nominated for a dozen categories, including most of the big ones. From the clips I've seen, I doubt even the Academy is crazy enough to overlook how bad it is, simply so that they could bestow the 'historic' first trans blah blah. So it's awards ceremony porn, where all the other award winners can lavish fake praise on Emilia Perez for being so brave or whatever, even as they take away the Oscars. Maybe it gets 'best makeup' or something as a token.

It might have had a chance before the main actor went on several rants and got exposed for being douchier than the rest of Hollywood, which is quite the feat.

Watched Anora on Monday night and it was really good. Then realized it's from the same guy who made Red Rocket and The Florida Project, two other great movies. Had no idea he had come out with a new one. He's definitely established himself as one of the best directors out there now with original films.
