Is there a more overrated combo then the 49ers and Shanahan? I have no idea how he isn't on any sort of hot seat. He's been at SF for 5 years and has had a losing season in 3 of his previous 4 years, with one season being 13-3 and losing in the Super Bowl. This year they may have a winning season or finish .500. But talk about underachieving. Niners have some major players and Jimmy G isn't the greatest QB but he certainly isn't the worst and he looks extremely below average under Shanahan.

I just don't see what the Niners front office see's in staying committed to Shanahan. He's 37-42 as Niners coach and he has way more talent on his team then the record shows.

The Vikings and Zimmer.
Yeah that is bad too. But it feels like Zimmer is on the hot seat and likely will be fired after this season if the Vikings dont make the playoffs. Shanahan seems like he is back even if the Niners have another losing season

Shanny isn't on a hotseat b/c he's under contract through 2025 and finding good HCs is hard. It's that simple.

The 2 coaches before Shanny lasted 1 season each (after 4 seasons of Harbaugh). That's why Shanny was handed a 6 year contract and then was given an extension through 2025 after the SB.

I'll agree that Shanny is underachieving with the Niners this season. They're almost certain to make the playoffs, but with 5 Pro Bowlers (LT, TE, FB, WR, DE) and a PB-level LB, they should have a better record. The secondary and QB play have been the weak spots and the reason they lost so many games. They went with a rookie DC this year that has been very underwhelming and the FO's drafts, trades, and FA signings have seen WAY too many duds.

That's why if the team struggles in 2022 with Trey Lance at QB, the most likely change will come at GM and Lynch will be replaced (while retaining the HC) with Shanny being put on notice that 2023 will be a make or break year.

Shanahan inherited one of the worst rosters and dumpster fires in the NFL back in 2017. They had to overhaul the roster and by year three made the Super Bowl. Jimmy G is a mid-level QB. Not bad but has limitations. But the big problem with Jimmy G has been availability. He missed almost two complete seasons and played hurt through much of last season so the 49ers had to rely on marginal backups and led the league with injuries. Not to say Shanahan is blameless. They have made some questionable roster moves and draft picks which have hurt them. Jimmy has not panned out the way they hoped. Their other big mistake was ignoring the cornerback position the way they have the last few years which has hurt them this year. Ultimately Lance is going to make or break this group's future.
