Reading the article would help answer that question...

The Action Network, citing sources, reported in May that the Falcons were being investigated for hosting high school prospects on campus during dead periods in 2020 and providing them with improper benefits.

If Air Force isn't fighting it then they did something but to be honest they should get more leeway and this isn't a good look for the NCAA. They could pay cadets before NIL so I'm not sure why this bee is in their britches.

Just leave them alone.

Yeah
I always thought the Service Academies had their own rules on recruiting.
Not sure why I thought that exactly.

I thought the rule was that the players are also supposed to serve a term in the armed forces similar to any other service academy attendee. The Air Force tends to be the one branch that does things differently though so perhaps there is something that I am missing.

Recruiting rules are the same but they were able to pay athletes because all cadets get paid so there was a special rule that was made that didn't hurt their amateur status.

Here is the deal "you owe us 5 years after you graduate" isn't the easiest recruiting pitch on the planet so these guys should get more leeway.

Yes I can read. My point is that this is a service academy. Should be a bit under different rules because of who and what thwy are (my opinion).

I guess, but if you are going to play with the 'big boys', you need to have the same rules.

I get it that it's harder to recruit there, as there is a service time requirement, but rules need to be even across the board.

Do they recruit per se or do they kinda just look at who is beating down their doors to get in and see if they ever played football?

No they don’t and you have zero clue what you are taking about.

Average D1 school has about 25K students and the service academy has about 4,400. The academic standards are off the charts, the quality of life is vastly different and then you have a 5 year commitment.

Not only is it not even it is grossly skewed against them. Not to mention we need every single one of these people desperately to fill officer slots.

You absolutely have zero clue about what you are talking about.

No they recruit but academic standards are a huge deal. They will issues waivers but you’ve got to be in the ballpark.

Another person I seem to have offended. I must be on a roll.

Wake Forest has about the same student body, but I'm sure very different academic requirements.

No one is forcing the academies to play D1 football, but I think if they do, they should play with the same rules. Stanford is one of the hardest colleges to get into in the nation, should they have easier regulations?

Sounds harsh on some of the best of America's youth, but I am against providing different rules for different schools because of academics requirements or school size.

Both, kinda. They do have strict rules for incoming cadets, regardless of whether they are athletes or not. They have to have to meet certain academic requirements, so Bubba that can barely spell his name isn't getting in no matter how fast he can run. They also have height/weight restrictions which is why you don't see any really huge players. Plus if they meet all the requirements, they still have to get a letter from their state Senator. Unlike other schools who recruit specifically for a certain sport, it's different for the Academies and people aren't looking to go there and do a year or two and hope for a big NFL contract.

So it's pretty tough to get in, and it's been said a degree from a Service Academy is akin to Ivy League.

Yes, technically they violate rules, but this looks bad for the NCAA.

That all being said, I'll bet they were ratted out by some Navy squid.

You have zero clue what these kids lives are like and nothing compares to it.

I know a dozen kids that have gotten offers from the service a academies and went to schools like Furman, Samford, Jacksonville State and Birmingham Southern instead. They just couldn’t do it.

Tell a recruit at any other program yeah if you sign first thing is boot camp and the last thing is 5 years of service.

The playing field isn’t remotely level at any point, so no they shouldn’t have to follow the same rules.

So academically they are like Stanford, Nortwestern, etc. and they get the 5 year military commitment which effectively ends any NFL dreams they might have.

Seems even...lol
