Also, there are subsonic rounds but most bullets do break the sound barrier. You just don't hear it as much since the sound is muffled by the explosion of the round. And the loudness of the sonic boom is determined by how much air is actually being moved and broken thru. That's why a jet's sonic boom is loud as fuck while a towel whip is something you probably wouldn't hear in the next room

Why is there no sonic boom when shooting an air rifle at 1400 feet per second?
