B10 new media deal worth over 1B per year

The BiGs next move is going to play players who choose to play in that conference.. They are going to give a percentage of equal revenue for the players on scholarships.. They hope this will give their schools better access across the south to get recruits
Yeah, I can see that happening. They will definitely lead the way on that. Hadn't thought of that as a rationale, but that would be one. Not sure that makes up for being away from momma, bad weather, and ugly girls. I kid, I kid about the ugly womenz.

The conferences taking the lead on those things is exactly what SCOTUS wanted in Alston. Let's say the B1G does that, then the SEC responds, and the others respond. That starts to take care of the anti-trust issues.

But why? They wouldn't be considered P5, so there is no advantage. I suppose they could argue we will pull all the best West G5 into one conference to maximize value, but again it won't be considered P5. Interesting thought.
If they keep the PAC logo, a lot of people won't notice.

The P5 label isn’t gonna be a thing. The argument for this would be take the best of the MWC, trim some of the fat and make a better conference. Plus you could expand into Texas (SMU, maybe Rice) and not have to split the pie up into too many pieces.

I recently learned that the SEC's deal is that if new teams come in, they increase the pie on a pro-rata basis, no more, no less. Where teams drive more revenue than their piece of pie, this is bad and the network gets a bonus. Where teams are worth less than the pro rata piece of pie, this is a good thing so long as you can absorb the friction costs adding those teams creates, and the network ends up subsidizing the less profitable teams.

This explains why they would do the deal with USC/UCLA first, and then bring teams in after. Do the deal with those that increase the pie, then bring in those that don't after, and you get a subsidy from the networks. That didn't make sense before, and now it does.
So what in your opinion is the timeframe for the B1G to add? Also what about the SEC? Would something like you explained lead to more Options for the SEC to expand. (I think you know what I’m asking here)

First, I am well read on this, but no expert. And I don't have half the info people like The Athletic have.

If it's true that they can add more teams and get a pro rata bump, you'd think it would happen as soon as they are convinced that ND is not available. Logically you would want to do it in time to make the plans for how you deal with west coast teams.

I think the SEC is done for a while. They aren't going to engage ACC teams for another decade unless some of them get rid of the GOR first. I think they see that they have (1) the new contract starting in 2024, (2) OU and TX coming in in 2025 along with a new schedule, and then (3) an expanded CFP in 2026. On top of that you have NIL and paying players to deal with.

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think the SEC brass are sitting there going, damn, the B1G added some teams, now we have to expand. If anything, I think they think they get the best of the expansion to 16 with OU and TX. And if the B1G goes to 20, I think the SEC will say good on you enjoy all the bullshit that is going to go with that.

But it's been like this for a minute outside the latest version of the big12

At least with the 3-6-6 schedule, you'll see schools play at least once every 4 years, but more importantly, they keep it's rivalry games every season. My horns will be playing aggy, ou and piggy every season again.. I'm good with it
That ain't frequently enough to be considered in the same conference IMHO.

I hear ya.. I was wrong about when UT and ou hit the SEC.. We'll play everyone within 2 years.. home and away within 4 years.. that's not so bad, was the same way in the Big12 before realignment happened

With the way it has been, that's fucking fantastic. We haven't played in College Station yet and they came into the SEC in 2012. It's absurd. We play Bama every 6 years. WTF.

Think through this ... going from playing teams like LSU, TAMU, Bama, and now OU and TX every other year, instead of every 6 years. That's 3 times more often. Then throw in 2-3 fantastic rivalry games for each team each year. The TV inventory is going to be unreal and will beat the breaks off the B1G unless they modify their schedule - which I assume they will have to do.
