I know Oats is a hot name but Y’all stay the fuck away.

I’m not nervous unless Michigan State or Syracuse come open

Given how much Alabama is paying him, I'm not sure how much more anyone else is going to offer him. I'm guessing he's staying at Alabama.

Oats to Indiana

Alabama will give Anthony Grant a second chance

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Indiana Coaching Candidates according to this guy.

Have Indiana and UCLA hoops jobs turned into something akin to the Nebraska football job? Great traditions but eons ago.
Indiana continues to hire hot candidates or well accomplished coaches and they just don't work out

Sampson, Crean and Miller were good hires on paper

UCLA's last two hires have been questionable

Alford was a meh coach at Iowa + anyone that ever watched Cindy knows that Cronin is a weird ass fit for UCLA.

It should be much easier to recruit to Indiana and UCLA for basketball than Nebraska for football.

Pitino canned while daddy is in the tourney with Iona.

How embarrassing...

I didn't understand the Cronin hire at all. If he has another year like his first 2, he's going to be on the hot seat soon.

After watching Alford's soft teams not play any defense, Cronin was exactly the kind of guy UCLA wanted. I still think Cronin will be fine. They should have been better this year but they had their best player tear his ACL and their top recruit went to the G-League at the last second. UCLA has another pair of top 50 guys (including the top player from California) coming in for 2021.

I understand it. They wanted the opposite of what they had in Steve Alford. Alford was toast when he brought in Leaf and Ball and couldn't win the PAC 12 or get passed the Sweet 16. 85th ranked defensive efficiency according to KenPom that year. They got tired of watching Alford bring in talent but not play any defense.

Yeah, I understand it in that sense in that they wanted to go in a different direction/style of play. It was just interesting that they fired a guy who made 3 S16's in 6 years, to bring in a guy who's only made 1 at Cincinnati. I will say I am surprised at how good he's recruited. It does suck that Nix went to the G League. I still think next year is important for him. He needs to field a top 25 team to be in good shape going into year four IMO.

UCLA figures they have a higher ceiling than Cincy (and they are right to think that). I'm not as surprised about recruiting, UCLA largely recruits itself. It's location is ideal and they still have a brand even if they aren't at the same level as the historical blue bloods.

21-22 is going to be important. Like I said, losing Smith to injury and Nix to the G-League put him in a bad spot for this season but they still made the tournament. If we're having this same conversation next year, his seat will definitely be warmer.

Yeah, ucla does recruit themselves. It was just he had such little success getting high end guys at Cincy, I thought that might translate to ucla. Cincy was a machine under Huggins, but maybe that's just Huggins. But he's definitely proven me wrong up until now. Plus getting Juzang eligible right away was a huge plus for this season.

Sounds like MN is going assistant route, Ben Johnson, xavier

Oddly, was a pitino assistant before leaving MN for Xavier

Not sure how I feel.

I feel pretty pissed. Zero track record of anything remotely successful. Xavier hasn't been good since he's been there, or recruited good. I just don't get it.

sorry guys, but Minnesota just made a laughably bad hire.

1.) Johnson isn't even Xavier's top assistant.
2.) Johnson has spent the past decade around mediocre or declining programs.
3.) Zero head coaching experience is a huge no when the coach's mentors are Richard Pitino and Travis Steele.

I agree. I'm not rooting against him but I don't know why Minnesota made this hire.
