Just rewatched Munich again for first time since I saw it back in 2005. I remember thinking it was alright at the time but I have enjoyed it so much more all these years later. It might be Speilberg's last great movie.

I think it is without question the best spy movie ever made.

Last? I mean, pretty much everything he does is good. I rewatched Ready Player One a few months ago and its better than I remembered after the first showing too.

But if we are talking Spy movies...

The Mission Impossibles seem to get better with each new one.
The first 3 Bourne movies are really good.
If you count it Enemy of the State was good too.

I feel like Spielberg has become a very subpar director since 2005. Great from prior to that point but really downhill after.

I don't think so. I think he is branching out a bit and doing different things that may or may not have subpar his typical level of scripts (i.e. Ready Player One).

But RPO was still good, Bridge of Spies was really good, Lincoln was good. I never saw BFG, War Horse, or Adventures of Tintin.

Are any of them classics? Idk, time will tell. I doubt it, but not all of Spielbergs movie before will be either. When I think of Spielberg and classics, I think of Jaws, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, and Catch Me if You Can. That's about it, but that's me. I am sure some others will throw in Temple of Doom, E.T., The Color Purple, etc...

Anyway, I don't think he has declined. He is still a top notch director. I do think his time is winding down, but that is more due to his age (74) than anything else.

Bridge of Spies and Lincoln were both okay. I wouldn't classify either as a great movie. Don't really have any interest in seeing RPO, just doesn't look like my type of movie at all.

In my opinion he has unquestionably fallen off as a director. His best work really was the 70s thru the eslry 90s.

Not a movie but I can't remember, did you watch "The Americans" Koy? That was a fantastic show, even on rewatch.

No love for Spy Game? I thought it was excellent.

Also:
-No Way Out
-Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Spy
-Argo
-The Lives of Others
-Ronin

I fucking love this film and you know what's really messed up? I didn't even think of it as a spy film because it's not an "international espionage" type of movie. But it's so good.

I watched most of the first season some years ago. I felt like the whole series was just going to be this cat and mouse teasing game between the spies and their FBI or CIA neighbor who would always be suspecting but never quite catch them so I didn't bother sticking with it.

The first season is kinda like that for sure, it has more episodes that seem like "caper of the week" type things. I imagine this was at least partly because they didn't know if they were going to be given the opportunity to tell a longer story. It develops into way more than that though, you should give it another shot and stay with it.

I love Eye of the Needle!

I just an hour ago rented The Courier for $.99 on iTunes and will watch it tonight.

the 2020 one? it was just added to prime this week.

If I had to pick 3, I'd go the Matt Damon Bournes. Those are top drawer.
