Best Spy movie?

Somehow I hadn't watched The Imitation Game about the code breakers using Enigma at Bletchley but Apple just had it this morning for purchase for $1 more than rental price so I bought it.

When I was in London, I was supposed to go to Bletchley Park the last day but was so blown away by the Imperial Navy Museum that I couldn't rip myself away. Next time!

It's pretty cool, went when I was stationed in Cambridgeshire. The movie is good but a bit inaccurate as they make it seem that it was all one guy, when it was a team of men and women carrying on work started by Polish cryptographers. Also, according to people who knew him and worked with him, Turing, though a biy prickly at times, wasn't nearly the prick as he's portrayed as.

Absolutely amazing! What a time, never to be repeated. What those people did - was it more skill and talent or character and determination?

Man, I can't even imagine being able to live over there. Can't tell you how much I loved London. My wife was counting the minutes to leave and get back to the palm trees, but at least was a good sport about it.

No love for Spy Game? I thought it was excellent.

Also:
-No Way Out
-Tinker Tailor, Soldier, Spy
-Argo
-The Lives of Others
-Ronin

this list is phenomenal! Well done. I’ll add a few:

North by Northwest (a clsssic)

Sneakers (old flick; great cast; pretty funny)

Hunt for Red October (does that count)

Lust and caution (Chinese movie with English subtitles. The star (a female) was blackballed in China after this movie bc the provocative scenes were too revealing for Chinese culture. Very good movie IMO)

I just finished The Courier. Definitely worth watching.

I just watched this the other night. Solid movie! Good story; very well told however, IMO The imitation game was much better though.

Any of the Baldwin/Ford movies as Jack Ryan is a spy movie. Of those Hunt for Res October is probably my favorite. Patriot Games next. Clear and Present Danger after that. I’m not willing to consider the Affleck one….or any of the newer stuff.

Any of the Jack Ryan books could have made great films and I feel like Hollywood missed the boat on doing Debt of Honor/Executive Orders with Ford.

Surely Hollywood didn’t want to piss off Japan with the Debt of Honor plot, and Executive Orders was a dead idea after 9/11/2001. But, those could have been great.

Just rewatched Munich again for first time since I saw it back in 2005. I remember thinking it was alright at the time but I have enjoyed it so much more all these years later. It might be Speilberg's last great movie.

I think it is without question the best spy movie ever made.
I’m going to have to think on best spy movie to me. I’m not sure I can land on it.

But, for now, I’m here to agree on Munich. A fantastic flick. It’s interesting that we haven’t gotten so much “based on a true story” Mossad pieces like this.

I’m just going to start pm’ing you on these things. Nice answer and comprehensive. I’ll have to start checking some of these out.

7 days in Entebbe sounds super interesting. I was just thinking why isn’t there a movie on this today and swearing I’ve seen a trailer before.

The Spy is really good. Sasha Baron Cohen is magnificent in it.

I'm going to give the edge to The Imitation Game as well but I was disappointed with the whole homosexual thing being featured so heavily and especially the normalizing of homosexuality between children. It detracted greatly from the movie.

One more thing: I swear if they'd showed Turing one more damned time with the quivering lip and tears in his eyes I was going to turn it off. :gaah:

Spy Game would be my #1 that I can think of as of now.

No Way out & Red Sparrow was good too.

Guilty Pleasure I liked RED. I can watch that movie anytime it comes on the movie channels.
