Bob Dylan turned 80 today

Love Bob, and he gave us The Band indirectly.

But others did his stuff better...

Though not an unpopular take, I tend to disagree. Think Hendrix’s Watchtower might be the only one that’s better than the original
I agree. The Byrds didn’t do bad with You Ain’t Going Nowhere, but I prefer the original for the vast majority of his songs(I tend to prefer the original for most every song with exceptions of course)

Like I said I love Bob.

But...

Johnny Winters’ Highway 61 is so so good, but I grew up with him blaring frequently as my big brothers were fascinated by him. Seeing him do it at Clapton’s Crossroads before he died was magical...much slower than he used to, sloppy and strained...but it felt perfect when you frame it with his long, hard road.

Dylan is awesome.

Bob Dylan sucked.

There, I said it. It needed to be said.
I used to think that way, then I started actually listening and now I’m a big fan. You can actually thank Mojo Nixon on SiriusXM Outlaw Country for getting me to open my ears a bit. That station has made me appreciate a lot of stuff I used to say sucked
