Brian Hartline -- I'm torn here.

I would have loved to have had him, but he was only going to stay for a few years until a better job (ex. OSU) opened up. Fickell walked away from both Mich St and WVU offers because he was waiting for a situation that checked all the boxes.
Fickell was never offered the WVU job. Gee (president) wanted him but Lyons the old AD chose Neal. I’d like to think Fickell would have came to Morgantown but I’m not totally sure. I wish Lyons would have offered him.

So its official,

Let the search begin

Pat Narduzzi
Lance Leipold
Matt Campbell
Mike Elko
Paul Chryst
Charles Huff

all feel like solid/realistic possible gets for Sparty imho.

Hartline is too good for MSU. They’ve earned a few years of coaching purgatory before any big names start looking their way.
Depends on how much they are offering the coach. If they are offering the next coach a $90 million dollar contract -- they will get a ton of interest, especially from hot shot coordinators, who are making nowhere near that.

I don't think that's the direction MSU is going to go though. They desperately need stability, and bringing in a guy who was just named OC for the first time in his career less than a year ago isn't going to provide that. My bet is one of Iowa State, Kansas, or Kansas State will see their coach end up in EL.

Still think they are gonna go with a low ball hire after this whole tucker mess. Some MAC coach or something like that.

Jason Candle from Toledo could be a guy to keep a eye on.

Candle makes a lot of sense. If they are able to move on from Tucker without having to pay an excessive amount of money to him, they could end up with one of the other three though. Clearly they don't mind spending money, even if it won't be as extravagant as it was with Tucker.

I might actually take Candle over Matt Campbell at this point, Campbell's stock has tanked big time.

I'm wondering if Campbell didn't just overachieve so extremely before and now he's just sort of coming back to earth in regards to what he should be doing at ISU. I still think he could be a great coach elsewhere. He's had winning records in 5 of his 7 years there, and he did a great job at Toledo before then. He's 82-59 overall as a coach, just get him somewhere that he can actually sell to recruits and not just overachieve with no-names and he'll do very well. I think MSU would be a great fit.

Not a bad call.
