Would they simply sign these kids to financial contracts once they sign their commitment and get it over with? Quit the amateur athletics BS and just make it essentially the minor league for the NFL.

I just saw an article about Michigan with a NIL collective called the One More Year Fund or something along those lines. It is a fund set up where any fan can go and donate to it and it was setup to convince any player with NFL eligibility to come back for one more year, so any funds collected will go to those players.

If they all leave for the NFL anyway -- any money collected will be distributed evenly with the existing members of the team.

This shit is getting exhausting. Just give these kids a damn salary and get it over with. Give teams a salary cap, let schools trade kids away -- if they want to get paid like the NFL, go all the way and make it just like the NFL.

There are a lot of issues that are unaddressed with NIL.

Colleges won't meet NFL in salary so I think NFL will remain and most players will still jump to NFL when they have a chance. That isn't changing.

The big issue will be how to handle the non-star players. Teams are still trying to figure out the value of a player. Should all starters be paid? Only certain ones? Etc.

Also, you will see situations like the Wake Forest QB (Sam Hartman) moving to Notre Dame more often. The players that aren't quite good enough to get drafted or drafted high will grab solid NIL deal and stay that extra year.

I was with you until the contracts allowing kids to be traded. Can't have that.

If they want to be paid like professional athletes, they have to expect to be treated like one. Just take trade out and simply have your scholarship pulled if a team feels you aren't living up to their end athletically. So a kid can choose to stay at the school and pay their own way or enter the portal and leave.

With a salary cap comes a minimum wage. That alone would price a vast majority of schools out of even having a team. And I'm good with taking scholarships away, or better yet have any contract max out at 1 year. Every year you have to sign a new contract. Then nothing can be traded and you can change/transfer every season if you want.

I'm just wondering how long they'll be academic standards

It is ridiculous. In like 12 hours -- they raised like 60k already. It is such a turn off -- if they are going to treat it like this -- they need to go all in. They keep it like this with no rules and teams simply buying players -- it will become a shit show.

They need to get everyone on the same page.

I am actually surprised NIL chaos hasn't been worse. You still have players picking schools for their ability to start or make it to NFL. It has been impactful but not as seismic as I expected.

For example, why haven't the Texas Longhorns just bought most of TCU and Kansas States' team to dominate Big12 next year? That is a great example of the chaos that NIL could create in the near future.

The teams who can't afford it will go down to G5. It isn't like they will be winning a national title anyways. So if you can't afford to pay your team a minimum salary -- G5. Set a max salary you want to pay and whatever you choose -- it goes to every kid on the team.

They have to figure something out. This is just getting ridiculous now.

This happens anyways (2017 UCF as example). They won't move down because you make more $$$ in the top division. This is why teams keep moving up.

EDIT: In fact with a 12-team playoff, more teams will want to move up hoping to be 2017 UCF and Cinderellas in CFB might be more common.

Bryce Young didn't win any natties.

A lot of NIL/porta-potty stuff needs to be reigned in. I seriously doubt if that’s the best way, tho.

It’d probably be a good idea if everyone stopped just paying the players up front no questions asked. Some level of making them actually earn it would be a good start.

Putting deadlines on when the portal opens and closes would be a good idea. Limiting how many times players can transfer would also help.

College football is nothing like college basketball. You simply aren't going to see a Cinderella team win a national championship. It was a small possibility when it was whoever finished 1-2 played each other and they had to win 1 game.
As they have changed it to 4 teams and now 12 teams -- the odds of that happening are probably on par with the odds for the lottery.

I'm not sure what that has to do with this? If a team can't afford to pay a kid a certain amount of money -- then they can move down to G5. Bama isn't one of those teams.

sounds like a collective and it's a good thing.. it sets the floor for the entire team. They in turn do charity work for that set amount per season. NIL are deals that players sign outside of the university.. car dealership, fast food, merchandise, etc.

As far as keeping players one more year.. The players getting for sure drafted on day 1 or 2 most likely leave anyways.. it's about getting to that second contract ASAP.

The players after that are the ones where a marketing deal or collective increase helps.. How much can you make as a 5-7 rd draft pick? What if you can make something close/similar/more than that by staying another season and improving your stock with a solid season?

I really don't get the outrage.. playing time, coach, scheme fit all come before NIL.. once players identify 2/3 of the first things, NIL opportunities come to play for the most part. Obviously there's situations where NIL comes first.. but i don't think it's as frequent as group think says

Look at the TN QB .. people were freaking out when he committed there and the rumors of his NIL "deal".. He was only going for that , blah blah blah.. FFW a couple months, that talk has died out because elite QBs are now interested in TN because of Huepels work with the QBs he's had.

Paying big NIL contracts don't insure winning. Players with huge NIL contracts don't always win natties.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't mean a wage floor, I mean the per player minimum wage. There are P5 schools that couldn't afford to pay their entire roster.
Yes I understand that min wage + roster limits = wage floor, but roll with me here.

I agree -- Texas A&M and Miami are perfect examples of that. But the teams with huge NIL contracts are going to attract the most high end talent. I think tonight is going to show you what a team with huge NIL deals will do to a team without it.

I think Georgia is going to absolutely hammer TCU. The only team with the talent on offense to hang with Georgia lost to them in the semifinals. Even if Michigan would have won -- I think Michigan would have been hammered by Georgia again.

And that is sad. Boosters buying natties.
